Those latest ones look fantastic. I know someone who built the Woody, doing something I wanted to try as well: he cut out the wooden portions of the body and used them as templates to re-make those parts with actual basswood parts. He then stained them and really enhanced the model that way.

Hey Madduke, I have seen that woody you speak of somewhere------or at least one built the same way. Any of you guys fool with 1/32 scale? When I was a kid, I got an Eldon 1/32 scale slot layout and noticed 1/32 scale models looked great displayed around and maybe some of the bodies used. Revell offered up some nice 32 scale items but the hobby shelves in my area were full of Airfix and Lindberg 32 scale cars and hot rods and lets not forget Pyro classics. You could usually pick one of these up for 49 cents at the five and dime and if you were a good little kid, the check-out lady would let you slide on the penny tax. When I was a kid, I at one time had a huge pile of 32 scale cars for the layout and as most of us young boys would do they met their fate as targets for our Red Ryder Range Model 200 Shot Air Rifle with a compass in the stock---or maybe the yearly firecracker attack. Well, one of my favorite kits was the Lindberg Kookie Contender.
A 32 scale kit with an engine and options!!! Wow, Lindberg sure knew how to get a kids attention. I'm not sure how many of these I built along with other rods and classics but I loved this little car. I had one in the stash for many years so about 3 years ago I built it again.
I chose to build it with the 3X2 carbs in the street rod version. I have thought about trying to pull this off in 1/25 scale. There are plenty of kit parts out there and it might work. Here are some shots of the finished rod. This little kit first hit the shelf in 1964 and has been available off and on up until just the last few years. I have not purchased one of the latest releases as this one is from the first 1964 release. I am not sure but I think there were at least 8 different releases of this kit. I do not have photos of all the box art and I know a couple of times they were released as a double kit with a different rod. Yes, they are pretty crude but "cute". I still like em even in my geezer years.

That is so cool. I never saw any of these in my younger days so I never got into them. Amazing I know, but we were a military family that moved a lot and almost all my models I got were from the local base exchanges. I never knew about Hobby Shops until I moved out on my own. None of the base exchanges ever carried those as I recall. Or my memory could be faulty; after all I was more interested in aircraft as my father was in the Air Force.

I did a short tour in Cyprus and managed to get a visit to a Canadian camp, in their shop they had a big selection of Tamiya stuff. On a 6 month tour we didn't get much baggage space or room space so I only had my 15mm and 28mm war gaming stuff

Yeah, I understand about small baggage space; I had a friend of mine who visited Cyprus when he was a kid. They were there for three months as his father was doing some work over there. They couldn't bring much and he couldn't bring home anything either due to baggage restrictions.
They were supposed to be there a year before coming back to the states, but the Greek/Turkey flare up happened and they were sent home after three months. He told me how the Greek Army had confiscated the family van they'd bought just before they left so that they could move their troops.
What a story; I just wish I could remember more.

Duke, on my tour we had blokes who were there for that uprising, they took us younger blokes on tours showing the locations where they had built sandbag sangers, set up MG posts and Anti-Tank systems. On the roof tops of some locations they were still able to point out where the Turkish forces had lined up ready to assault, pretty interesting.
