Very good Joe, but Wikipedia didn't tell you the answer to my Q of who the singer was... it was definately NOT Rod Stewart, despite him being the named singer for the group. the single and Album were released with somebody else singing on that track.

As a side note, David Gilmore, the guitarist for the band after Syd, (and the best guitarist ever IMO) used to own and fly a P51 Mustang.

It WAS Beck himself did the vocals, Rod Stewart was unavailable, so producer Mickey Most got Beck to do a "scratch" vocal on it, the intention being to get Rod to replace the "scratch" vocal later on... then, in one of Most's less dirty tricks, he released it as a single, ro promote the forthcoming album (either "Truth" or "Beck-ola" ) Stewart was less than pleased and left the band in.a huff. Last time the song was performed was by Beck himself ("Ladies and Gentlemen, you're not going to believe who's going to sing this next one") at a concert to raise money for Small Faces singer Ronnie Lane, at which the "big three" of British guitarists (Eric Clapton, Beck and Jimmy Page) all performed individually and together. Ronnie Lane had been diagnosed with MS, from which he later died.
