This is the second WW1 aircraft I built in December as a Christmas present for my friend. I really enjoyed this build. After having a little experience now with the rigging I felt a little more comfortable. I found the trick was getting the right rigging string. I used EZ Line which was far superior to the MIG stuff I used before. In fact I went back to the other kit and replaced all the rigging with this stuff. Insane I know but I get like that. It drives me nuts seeing something I know I can make better even if it looks fine.
Anyway...This was also the a first for me using resin water. Oh boy. Lots of trial and error with this. After practicing on something else I ended up using woodland scenics premixed realistic water. The trick was to pour it in layers of about 1/4" thick then letting that dry and pouring another and then another and then another..it took 2 days. But I think it worked ok. The hard part was how to make the water on the train car look like it just came out of the water. Again more layers just thinner.
If your wondering about if the scene is real or made up. Its both. I saw a picture of the plane on a train car then my imagination did the rest. The pully system is made up from a German tank kit. I'm sorry about the photos and the lack of more but I was under the gun to get this done by Christmas.
The figure I got from Sprue Bro's. Copper Models I think but what was cools is they had figure just for this plane.
One more thing I do all my own wood using oils and glazes. No decals. I tried them and they look too uniform.
I do pray to do more of these wonderful kits someday. Maybe someone will buy the molds from the company.
