Thanks gents The A1 ready for dirt and the A2 in primer Painting modern American tank tracks, for me anyway, has always been a chore. Not because it's hard, because it's time consuming and tedious as the track needs four colors in it to appear realistic. Today I found a product to speed this up considerably. Note the two tracks below Both are sprayed with Mission Models tire black. One has the steel parts painted in Model Masters burnt umber, the other is MIG track wash directly over the paint. The track wash flows like the thin enamel it is while the acrylic paint must be stippled in to get everywhere it needs to go. If you get the acrylic thinned enough to flow it does not cover; for that matter it does not flow well due to surface tension. An excellent discovery I am halfway jazzed about Regards, Mark

Perhaps I should save my effort and paint everything brown? Jeez that'd look like I...painted everything brown A2 in basecoat By the time the A2's hit Vietnam to help make up losses of the A3's they were around 15 years old and were somewhat shopworn; I've tried to reflect this with a lighter basecoat. Clear coats will darken it up anyway so I may not end up with the intended effect but it'll still be green Regards, Mark

I've seen green dirt a time or two in my life but it was the kind of dirt that would make you dissolve if you got enough of it on you Good thing it's not over common Tentative finish on the Dragon A1 I'm working thru the last of my Model Masters acrylic dark earth, nice color, great for groundwork but not so nice for dusting. It starts to dry and set so fast it's like trying to spray glue...and I've never found a retarder that works with it. Guess it's a moot point now since Model Masters is going the way of the dinosaurs Regards, Mark

Thanks gents This project has slowed some, not halted but another thing is now absorbing spare time...the PD's are back out in large numbers so I've been visiting them. Am up to 270 at this time. Despite PD business, the A1 is finished. I'll call it "The tough cows" I'll complete the A2 next but I've a hankering to start the mine truck soon. I'll intersperce bases for the already completed models in the series with the truck build so's this project will not lag like some others I have Regards, Mark

How much I enjoyed this one, I had a lot of catching up to do as I was occupied with non modelling related things such as breaking some ribs and a collarbone. You're not only good at model making, your diorama's look fantastic! The cows are a superb touch! The M46 diorama looks full of action with those running infantrymen in a simple but effective setting. Yes, less can be more, this diorama shows it. You really caught that desolate and destructive impression of war action.

Thanks much gents
Jconn I did not have any idea what to do with this at first, had some vauge plans about checkpoint Charlie or something similar. One night, however, when I was drinking my favorite scotch this idea just popped in and that was it
AG as a healthcare professional I advise you to cease this recent practice; it's bad for your health, painful, and expensive. Something you did not know, eh? On a more serious note don't push that collarbone and it'll heal up faster and stronger. The way to tell is simple, if what you're doing hurts the injury don't do it. You're probably looking at eight to ten weeks of convalecence with this and you have my empathy since I've been there myself.
You could not be more correct about simplicity as when I try to make up elaborate scenes they almost always turn out poorly. It almost seems the more I think about them the worse it gets unless I'm working from a picture which is something I have never liked to do.
Given the conditions where this idea came to me I can only conclude that I should drink more scotch
Regards, Mark
