the leftover from the Autocar conversion. The answer: a twentyish buck take a chance from the LHS. A snap tite kit which for the most part I do not view as a serious model, but the molding is better than the best letter kit I've seen and with the addition of the dump body, some spares and scratching the vast majority of the uglies will be hidden from tender eyes. I look at it as a self test to see if I'm as good as I think I am Probably not Regards, Mark

Welcome gents So after a few sessions of playing with this I think I can make a more or less acceptable model out of it. They give your an OK but very basic Cat 3406 so I drerssed it up a bit The kit transmission was horrible so I sawed off another one from an old AMT spare I had laying around for a replacement, and I'm not bothering with air and electric lines thru the frame as the dump body would hide all of it. I should be able to assemble the major components soon Regards, Mark

Thank you gents Mill now wearing appropriate color and goo The model is gonna be rather slow to completion 'cause I'm altering it enough that it's a dry assemble, scratch, and fit kind of a deal. This is not over difficult but it does slow one down. I am, however, saving lots of time on the would be invisible detail I am skipping. Hey car guys anyone know how to polish clear plastic to disguise molded on windshield wipers being cut off? I was appalled when I saw this Regards, Mark

Mark that engine looks good enough to run.
As for polishing the clear parts; here's something aircraft guys do on canopies that need it:
First, sand the area where the carving went smooth with a very fine sanding stick/pad, typically about 600-800 to start. Then do the same with successively finer grit, finally ending with a 12000 grit pad. After that, polish it with some toothpaste and a very soft cloth and end with a dip in some Future clear. Yeah, it's time consuming, but it works. Some have even mounted the sanding elements on a small drill or Dremel to speed things up a bit.
Good luck with that. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thank you gents Mark thanks for the response; it sounds like an agonizing process. I found another way which I'll describe ahead. OK, so here's what's happened lately The exhaust pipe was too short so a slice was added Wire loom and stuff for the firewall Looking thru my piles of junk I found some .005 clear styrene and cut the windshield and door windows from it Firewall stuff in place Cab snapped on frame. Snap tite models are not my favorite...gotta hide some more uglies Wire and hoses run, need a bit of touch up paint and I'll be done with 99% of the detail work Whatta mutt
Gonna go do yard work now as I'm shaking too much to continue this
Regards, Mark
