Sorry, Mark, no images of those areas. The truck never had the hood panels open when I was present with a camera

Thanks gents I noticed the kit supplied mirror brackets are vastly overscale so I got the files and commenced to reduce their diameter. An hour later I'd gotten this far and it became scratching time Not perfect but it was the smallest diameter styrene I could work with and still maintain some strength. It will enhance the final product I think. I also think it was a very tedious undertaking Regards, Mark

The scratching has certainly paid off if you ask me

The scratching has certainly paid off if you ask me Totally agree. Working in the larger scale really does open up your options for scratchbuilding stuff like these mirror brackets. You could go smaller by using brass rod & tube, but that's hard--trust me on this. Soldering is required to get the necessary strength, and it's harder to keep stuff aligned for that than it is to glue styrene. Once you have as much structure built up as you have here, styrene works just as well for 1/24 or 1/25.

Thanks gents Beek I know where you're coming from about brass; been there done that and will always work with styrene if possible as I am too lazy to practice soldering teeny little parts Thanks OJ I am trying Since all the other round parts were overscale the grab handles and hood handles got scratched as well and here it is closer to its final form Still quite a bit to do yet. This will probably be my last foray into the letter kits for awhile until I get cocky again Regards, Mark

Definitely turning out quite nicely indeed, Mark! I have just one of those letter kits, the Mack DM800. I bought it solely for measurements to translate to my 1/35 scale version. The challenges involved in working with one of those ancient kits are formidable indeed, and I haven't worked up the courage to try to build one.

Thanks gents
Bucky I won't give up on them but I will do a few tanks next to give the soul a rest
Beek I picked up one of those as well; I ended up cannibalizing it for other builds. I've found the letter kits to be a curious mix of actually pretty good to downright horrible in the same box...and I don't recall them being any better when I was a kid. If you decide to do one of these be prepared to do three times as much work and spend three times longer than you thought to bring them over the line
Regards, Mark

That's about what I figured, Mark. I did a little trolling on eBay yesterday, and while there are some that are affordable the most eye-catching versions are ridiculously expensive...like that triple-axle Kenworth heavy wrecker kit. Having seen that Weather Channel series "Highway through He!!" (and more than once driven through that area in summer), the big recovery iron is attractive. Just way too expensive. I did notice that one seller has several combinations on offer with various tractors and the same log trailer kit you are using.
