I do love those elegant pre-war Mercedes-Benz cars! The real ones from that era are forever out of my price range, sad to say.

I don't see many of these cars, real or model. I haven't seen many models, either, but I've been fortunate to see a few of the 380K/500K/540K special roadsters in various collections and on the concours field. They are incredibly impressive machines even today, and were certainly the supercars of their era. It blows my mind that several of the surviving models of this type were originally found/acquired by American servicemen during the occupation of Germany after the war as relatively inexpensive used cars. Typically they got run into the ground and moldered for additional decades before being rediscovered and restored at phenomenal expense. Occasionally one was brought back to the USA when the owner's tour of duty ended, and continued to be used and admired for a considerable time before being stored. And then rediscovered and restored at phenomenal expense. Anybody can afford a relatively modern Mercedes-Benz, but the restoration and ownership of pre-war classics and post-war 300 Adenauers and Gullwings belongs to a fortunate, fabulously wealthy few.

I can NEVER afford any car of this caliber...even if our house was sold and our cars were sold and all our assets were liquidated we would still be short by 1 or 2 million bucks...so I just build models .

Likewise, if we're limiting the field to these truly rare collectible examples. Only a fabulously wealthy few could afford one of these hand-built machines new, or to afford the cost of restoration and operation today. Different story for the higher-volume models, regardless of era. Those truly are affordable by most, especially low-mileage CPO examples these days. Me, I'm rather impatiently awaiting the debut of the upcoming W206 chassis C-Class at the end of the month. Here in North America we'll be a few months behind Europe but I have my checkbook primed for the plug-in hybrid with 60 miles electric range that has been promised. No, I don't sell the things...just an enthusiast who's owned five of the more pedestrian models over the last 25 years. Plus a few dozen more of the Hot Wheels variety.

I was refuring to the model, Patrick. You'd have to be Jay Lenno to get one of these, for real.

Those Entex kits are rare as hen's teeth these days, and I think they have all been OOP for decades. An excellent score, I must say!
