Hey, Everyone, After taking a little over a week to recharge the batteries and focus on a couple other hobbies for a while, I made it back to the bench today and started the second half of the build...painting and weathering. There's really not a whole lot of interesting photos -- just this one in fact. It simply shows that I've managed to get the first shades of Russian Armor Green applied to the build (and the unattached parts): That's it for today. After this dries I'll begin the next steps of some detail painting and then the application of the worn winter white-wash. Until next time...

The Russian green looks good Robert, and with a winter camo it will look totally cool. Was the star on the main turret molded on?

Thanks, that's something unusual isn't? Do you mean the kit molding the star or having the national insignia cast into a part?
I've seen kits include molded markings and insignia on parts in the past, but it is somewhat rare. It many cases, the molding of these markings is done purely to help "kids" to paint the markings more easily or position decals correctly. Many times they are 100% inaccurate and do not reflect the real vehicle in any way. However, I don't think so in this case.
There is at least one picture out there of a knocked out T-28 (or maybe a T-35) showing the top of the main turret and you can just make out what appears to be a raised star. Unlike just a marking, the photo shows a very slight "shadowing" along the edges that make me believe it is indeed part of the metal. While I can't find that particular photo at the moment, I do have this portion of a technical line drawing of a T-28 showing the star cast into the turret top:
This may have only been done at certain factories or on certain versions of the turret -- or in may not have been done at all. I can't really say with certainty one way or the other, but I personally like the detail if it is true.

I am SO torqued! I had a long post all typed up in this quick reply section, hit the Post Quick Reply button, and ProBoards logged me out. The entire thing was lost. Therefore, I'm sorry, but you get the abridged version. I'm still chugging away at the model and as these photos show, I painted the only marking (star on the turret), added paint streaking/fading, and then applied shadows and a brown pin wash. I still have more to do before starting in on the winter war stuff. Until next time...
