I have a preponderance to pose to the masses hereabouts.
When setting up the polls for the voting on the MOM in the past, I kind of went by the number of entries and gave the voters the choice to vote for as many as three builds.
I have seen it done that way on numerous forums, and never heard of it being a problem....until now! LOL
On another forum, having multiple votes caused a five-way tie! So, there was a five-way runoff vote to determine the winner. That particular MOM only had five entries, and three votes were allowed per voter. There were suggestions of voting manipulation in order to drive the voting one way, or another. So, in the future, there will be one vote per voter, and the results will most likely be hidden until the voting expires. This month, here at OSM, the poll was set for ONE vote per voter, and there are seven entries this month. Is this the direction you folks would like to see the MOM voting take in the future? Also, would you like to have the results hidden until the end of the voting period?
Your opinions are greatly appreciated, and we would like to hear what you think!
Thanks for helping OSM be a great place for model builders!

I've always felt that one vote by each member is the honest way to go... I don't care if it is hidden or not as only one vote whether you change your mind or not during the voting period wouldn't ordinarily overturn the apple cart! The nicest apple should be the one that gets picked, ha, ha!!! As to hiding the vote many people are like sheep and they just follow the masses so if one build has more votes then the others they just pick that one thinking it must be the best one based on other peoples votes. If they didn't know the vote would they vote differently? Probably which would give a more accurate vote overall... decisions, decisions... always in the valley of decisions!

Let's all kick this about while the current MOM is being voted on. By the end of the month, hopefully we'll know what the fine folks here at OSM would like to see for the future of MOM.

I think that one vote per voter is the best way to go. That way the best model should win. I know which forum you mention had the issue. It was noted there that it might be possible for a model that would come in third to win when there are multiple votes involved. I'm no math whiz but that does sound feasible to me.
As to hidden or not hidden, my opinion is I would like to see how the votes are going. Hidden, to me, would be like having a horse race but not seeing the race. You find out who won after it was over.
I am not a "follow the crowd" voter. I try to vote for what I believe to be the best model presented. Some may vote for the leader. Some may vote for the builder no matter the model. You can't help that IMO.
From what I've seen on voting for MOMs is there are usually 10-15 voters. I imagine none of these voters are the type I just posted above. If you were getting 40-50 votes per month, perhaps.

Which way Bruce? Both directions have been discussed so far... give us your true feelings on what you would like to see here on MOM voting!

I am also not a "follow-the-crowd" voter. I agree one vote simplifies things tremendously. If we ever get 15-20 entries in a Model of the Month; then maybe considering a multiple vote up to three each might help narrow the field down to a run-off vote of one vote each to determine the winner...unless there is a clear winner already. Then again, we have to get that many entries but I don't see that happening right now.
I don't think hiding the vote is necessary, as pointed out by DPNM. My technique for voting is that I choose what I think looks best to me. If I have a serious choice to make in that I cannot decide which of my favorites I like best, I tend to fall back on my IPMS judging training. Then the one with less visible flaws gets my vote as that to me is the best tie-breaker I can consider.

Either way is fine with me. Multiple votes or one, hide it leave it open is all OK for me.

Can we use Mail-In votes? Would that count? One person = 1 vote
