It's been a while since I posted an update. Here's where I'm at. I mentioned back on page 4 (IIRC) that the guy who's 1/16th build I am following hasn't posted since April 8th. He was giving me measurements. He still has not posted anything new.
There is a 2nd guy building the same frame etc who is going to use a resin Vega wagon body. He does not need to slice and dice the chassis as much as is needed for the Hawaiian Charger car body.
He is building his going by a 3rd members "incredibly" finished Don Prudhomme Army Vega F/C in 1/16.
All 3 of these members have or are using after market bolts/screws and rod ends, mostly in the front end parts. I don't have any. Right now I'm not sure what to get in the size(s) I need either.
Here is my dilemma, should I gather the small parts and build an even more accurate rendition or should I just say the heck with it and leave the body down? My main plan for the car is the paint work. Then again, if I plan to build it, should I not do it even a little bit more accurate?
I am still undecided.

I did say that I have a plan B. This is it: I got a bit started but there is no way I am going to build this at the rate Joe is building his. I'm doing this a bit different than Joe is also. I glued the top half of the roll bar now (should come later) figuring that I won't be able to super glue it in neatly once I got to that point. I "should" be able to slip the seat base in as is??? I also stripped a lot of chrome. The first pic pieces are ready for paint. I don't know how yours went Joe but it took me over an hour to glue in step 2. It was spent trying to coordinate the tweezers, my fat fingers and making sure the glue was applied in the right spot. Arrgh!

I said I had a Plan C too. I mentioned in my "I talked with a drag Racer" thread that I may need a 1/24 Charger FC kit to replicate my neighbors BB/FC. Bucky had one and I was able to make a trade with him for it. (Thank you Bucky!). Here is where I do not know if I should laugh or cry. If you look at the box art and the pic at the top of the instruction sheet the body sits too dang high. Kinda looks like a 4X4. Here is what I found. This is the same tooling as the 1/16 Charger kit, except it is in 1/24, so all the mods I need to do to lower the body on the 1/16 car I will need to do on this one too. This should be easier as I will not be using bolts/nuts and rod ends sourced from the after market. I'll go with what is in the kit. Should be good practice for the bigger version. I did talk with my neighbor for a minute today. I asked him the visual difference between a nitro engine and one that runs on alcohol. He said his had a single distributor ( ), only one fuel pump, no on board computer stuff and a bit less hoses etc. There isn't as much "under the hood" of the alcohol FC. Yee Haw!!! I have not decided to start on this car.

Plus I mentioned I have a possible Plan D. That one I am keeping mum about for now. It is another FC BTW.

Since my 1/16th build got stalled and the Funny Car GB was my idea I figured I should do something so I got started on the Olds kit. It's the same kit as Joe's except his has a Firebird body.
The biggest issue I see on replicating my neighbors BB/FC will be finding someone to print the decals.
I didn't mention I have a Plan E. I have a 1/16th Revell Jungle Jim Vega F/C but I need the two front tires for it. If anyone here has a pair I could use them. I would think any Revell 1/16th F/C kit fronts would work. I have vehicle related stuff, car, PU, semi and motorcycle parts to trade. Or I could trade green paper if need be.
Being this is an open ended/no time limit build group I should have plenty of time to get them all done. If I live that long LOL!

Step two was the worst cause that picture doesn't really show how it goes... I put the axle together so I could line it up correctly and then glued it with tamiya liquid glue... I hope you can get that seat in with the frame together, mine was super tight fitting and I had to spread the frame a bit till it was in...

I talked with a guy I work with who is an "electronics" guy, not a modeler. I asked him where I might be able to find some small diameter wiring (to use on the Olds build). He suggested a home phone cable. Well...what do ya know? I found what I think may work as I had one I wouldn't ever use. The blue and green wires are nice color, the orange (?) wire is a bit pale and there is a tan wire that I doubt I'll use. All the white wires have a corresponding color stripe (green/blue/orange and tan) that I doubt I will use either. I've got enough here to do many distributors though! I do have a few Morgan Automotive Detail pre-wired distributors but I don't want to use two of them on this build. They are quality distributors BTW.

I've painted the wires before with great results to get the color I wanted... just thin it slightly and it goes on easy...

You may be right on the seat Joe. Especially once I add paint to the frame and seat. I'll deal with it however it is once I get that far.

Sorry there is so much I've posted today. I worked 8 days in a row and my first day off was yesterday which I spent the better part of catching up on stuff around the house that I haven't been able to get to. The posts today are an accumulation of "I need to post this" on the FC GB page. I was finally able to do that today.

The blue, orange and green will work for what I need as is. Too bad that cable didn't have yellow, black and red too . Could've been one stop shopping! I've colored wires with a permanent black ink marker. Works well. Don't use a black Sharpie though. It's not a true black. You can see red in it.

I'd like to build 'em all.
I do have other things in my stash I'd like to build too, besides funny cars.

Steering is attached now, wait till you have to fish that linkage through the frame, oh howdy!!! Wheels didn't want to stay together for the glue to dry so raided my woodshop for a helper! That can sit overnight now!!!

If that clamp don't work nothing will. I'll keep the fun time of the linkage in mind. Thank you for the heads up

The destructions are awful for really letting you know where parts go... some are a real guess as the arrows just go to nothing...

The destructions are awful for really letting you know where parts go... some are a real guess as the arrows just go to nothing... I hear ya Joe. Same as step 2. It didn't occur to me to do it the way you did it. There weren't any locating pins either. I guessed location when I installed it and, for once, seemed to have guessed right.
