I had the opportunity to meet Patrick two days ago (Tuesday). A couple months back I had sent him a PM regarding a WIP he had posted which hadn't seen an update in about two years. I thought that he might have gotten to the point of not wanting to finish it. It was a model I was very interested in. I sent him a PM and we made a deal to trade models.
He offered to swap models at his house. He lives a couple hour drive away, I'm near Pittsburgh Pa and he's north of Canton Ohio. That would work out. This was around the time the virus started. I was not able to make the trip before Tuesday as restrictions have been lifted somewhat starting this week.
We had the chance to talk for a number of hours Tuesday. Patrick has posted here that he has a disability. This is true. What I found during our conversation was he has a love and desire for model building. This shows in the builds he creates. Seeing first hand what he has to deal with, and being able to build as he does, I found it very inspiring. I do not think that I could build models as well as he does were I in his situation.
I told him that I would be more than happy to visit him again. I will do that. It was nice to meet someone from the OSM forum and I got to meet a forum friend in person.
Thank you Patrick!

That rocks man! It's always great to meet a fellow member on a Forums in person. I've done it with several people from our old LEM. On there we used to joke that if there's no pics it didn't happen. Given Patrick's situation; I can understand him being camera shy.If he doesn't mind getting pics; then maybe they can be posted here next time so we can all join in the visit vicariously. Meanwhile, thank you for meeting up with him and brightening his day.

Patrick is a great guy, I've known him for a few years, he was one constant contestant at the Gatherings I used to hold. He does great work, having seen it in person I can say that he is an awesome modeler.

I met some great guys from the old Automodelling forum years ago in Birmingham, Al. Would really enjoy meeting the guys here on OSM. Let me know when you're gonna be in Nashville, Tn, and I'll drive up there! LoL Hey, Jerry....are ya still doing the Gathering?

Bucky, I came real close to being able to meet you when I drove out there for the IPMS Nationals in Chattanooga. Too bad you couldn't have attended that! What a scream that would've been! I had such a blast; it was well worth the drive, especially given what has happened since March. I got to meet several old members of the LEM, and I met at least seven guys from the Modeler's Alliance at the Chattanooga Nats; including modeling legend Bob Letterman! It is always a thrill to meet fellow modelers whom one shares almost daily posts with online. Maybe someday things will return to close-enough normal to be able to travel and visit again.

"Hey, Jerry....are ya still doing the Gathering?" Unfortunately no, due to lack of attendance. The last Gathering had a whooping 8,(including myself) attendees. Talked to a the other 3 original guys and we decided to end it. We didn't have any swap meet or any gold, (trophies, prizes), which we concluded was the reason for the drop in attendance.

Yeah, gathering just to gather and enjoy the hobby with like-minded people is at least as fun; especially if you are all building during that time. That's what our Hobby Days are like... once we get back to doing them again.
I really miss our Hobby Days too.
