I hope I've put this in the correct place but I have a question, is ther a ratio to use when basing an individual figure? i rescued an old wooden tool from the bin (handle of really) about 5 foot in length and at least 50 yrs old if not older. A friend has turned a pice of it for me as a tester but I think it might be a little too tall, here is an idea of how it looks.

I don't know that there is a hard and fast rule about height, depends on what you like! I would probably go with half or a quarter of the height of the figure but that is just me...

I could see this used in a grouping of perhaps 3 different heights and 3 figures, for display purposes. Good idea Jed.

I think it's perfect; especially if you plan on having a large enough print sign on it. I've seen many a figure mounted on such a base.

Ok, now they appear, good deal. So, IMHO, as long as the base does not take away the focus from the figure itself, you should be good, but too tall can do that. Play with different sizes and see which has the best eye appeal. If the placard requirements dictate a larger base, there you have it. That's pretty much how I would approach the base.

Base height is a personal choice. What you have done can be used 2 ways, as a handle while painting your figure or with "muddy WW1 soil" would be all right. The good thing about a base is that it is something to grab instead of the figure. May also be an anchor point during travel to a show. Cheers
