I'm sticking this in "Modern" even though the M60 it's based on is "older", kind of a a gray area, but it's IDF, so it's all a "gray area". Not long ago I disassembled the Magach 7C I built from t he Academy kit, not liking the paint job, and other aspects, but the 7C is just too cool not to have one in the case, so..... I recently picked up another Academy kit for a song, and since I have a couple of the Takom M48H Brave Tiger kits in the stash, I figured now was as good a time as any. I even had the Friuls all ready to go. So, after moving one return roller and deleting the #2 shock on each side, I got busy. The Takom hulls are so nice, and build up quickly, so I'm this far already: From here on out, expect to see lots of tan Academy parts.... Stay healthy!

Come one, come all! I have more done, just very limited computer access these days, but I've gone and done it again, started another junkyard dog using old stuff, back to my "two at a time" pace.

I seriously need to get my wife back to the office so I can get some computer time..... the 7C is moving along, as is a "slick" with a 'dozer.

It's Saturday! From the rear, glue blobs to be removed..... IMG_1293 by Russel Baer, on Flickr And the front, where the only "big" dimensional issue has come up, meaning I had to extend the fenders a bit because the Academy and Takom hulls aren't the same length-wise, putting the fender mounts in the wrong place: IMG_1292 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I also re-did the driver's hatch, easier than trying to use the Academy hatch, a "flat" early cover with the IR periscope than the Takom cover, a late -A3 style, also with the IR periscope. I wanted to do one without the IR scope anyway.

Do you have difficulty with bonding parts together, with all the different surfaces, Russ?

Do you have difficulty with bonding parts together, with all the different surfaces, Russ? Occasionally, yes. A couple of the key structural parts on the 'dozer are pinned as well as glued, something I'll do when strength is needed, but I used "Gorilla" brand super glue which seems to work better than most hobby branded formulas, and it's relatively inexpensive. Some of the plastics are more resistant to styrene glue than others, but again, I use a bulk commercial product for my liquid glue (MEK in a pint container) and good old Testors in the black plastic container for a gel.
One of my "skills" in a former life was welding, so I'm always open to different ways of sticking stuff together, but don't laugh here, I hate PE, and can't solder it to save my life.

Can't help it; gotta laugh at that last comment! Hey, I know how to solder copper pipes together, but haven't the skills or resources to actually do it. Yet, I'm the same: I can't solder P/E to save my life!

Soldering this brass is difficult, I don't care how easy some people make it look. I either melt the brass or get a cold joint. So, turret armor modules started, the goal being to show them as separate pieces, with a couple out of alignment, as often pictured. Academy mold them in two pieces, rather than the actual six, understandable, but it makes for an uninteresting model, IMHO. So I've deepened the separation lines between then, wanting to show actual gaps, and actually separated two, with the desired end result being a well-used tank. IMG_1295 by Russel Baer, on Flickr This took all afternoon, and my poor eyes are tired.
