Greetings Fellow OSM Denizens.
In this time of world-wide upheaval, many people might think that those of us who have hobbies like we do are perfectly placed to embrace the whole idea of "social distancing", lock ourselves in our hobby rooms, and build away to our hearts content. While that indeed might be the case for some of us, I find myself with just one more reason to get back to the bench and yet with no motivation whatsoever to do so. It's frustrating to the extreme!
As some of you may have noticed that my participation on these forums - beyond the occasional comment or model vote - has been rather sparse of late. That's not to say my presence has diminished in the slightest...as I'm sure the admins could attest. It's only my contributions that have suffered and for any of you who have posted build photos or interesting tidbits that I should have either seen or commented on, I apologize. However, I find that when my building declines, my desire to post about building also suffers.
For the better part of 6 weeks I've been in a genuine, full-blown, modeling funk. With only a couple very minor exceptions, my hands have not touched plastic or held sprue cutters in all that time. It started with serious car issues - as in $520 in repairs serious, but since then has grown from what I thought was simple malaise to something far more substantial. The sad part is that it's only my modeling that is affected. In this same time frame, I've learned and played about a dozen new board games, nearly played through an entire campaign of a computer game, watched dozens of movies, and even read two complete books...one of which was Frank Herbert's DUNE!!!
I really have no idea how much longer this funk will last, but do know that like all of us, I'll have plenty of opportunity while closed up in the house. All I can say is that I'll keep logging in and watching everyone else make progress. Perhaps your efforts will break through and stimulate me to get back to the workbench sooner rather than later.
I wish all our members the best of luck in dealing with our respective situations around the world and like all of us, wish for a speedy, healthy, satisfactory conclusion to the crisis for everyone.
All the best,

No worries Robert, we will keep the light on for you for when the juices start flowing again... financial strain can always take a hit at our other areas of life and its ok to take a step or two back and refocus on other passions like reading, movies, hiking or even cooking! Do what you need to and know that you are always welcome here to just poke around when you feel like it! All the best my friend, Joe

Hang tight Robert, your funk will pass. I go through phases where I just can't work a kit either. But my situation was mostly a seasonal issue, i.e., work outside in the summer. My kit time is always traditionally right as soon as the snow flies. I always look forward to it every year, but not this one, I gotta get Moma a new kitchen. So now that I'm fully engulfed in a kitchen re-mod I couldn't touch a brush to save my life, my mind ain't in to it till the job is finished. It's an anal retentive disease, or so they told me, HA!
Like you I stop in pretty much every day, I'm hooked, can't leave my passion too far behind, and sometimes I'm not into making a comment either. Just remember, when you do get back that irresistible urge to "sniff some paint and glue your fingers together" we'll be right here for ya!
Cheers, Ski.

What they said! LoL I once went about seven years between builds! I'm guilty of lurking about on the forum, too, and I started this place! Hahaha There are a great many reasons to give our hobby a backwards shove, so I see no need to apologize for any of them affecting bench time. The ol' mojo will show up again, and you'll be posting away like before.

Thanks Robert. I found a different outlet for awhile and that helped me renew my inspiration. Maybe you will see something which helps renew on here also.

Hey Robert...
You may have tried some of these so forgive me...
I usually will watch a movie to get me inspired. Netflix has some excellent ones on WWI that got me on a huge WWI kick and renewed my interest by trying something new. I also have kits from many genres so occasionally I'll start up a car kit or figure and try my hand at that.
Books also help tremendously...now that I coordinate reviews for AMPS, I get in shipments of books from many companies like Osprey and Casemate. I send some along but I have also kept many to read and then pass along to either model show raffles or to younger members who are thin in the resource library. I have a stack of these that won't be getting passed along anytime soon, and I can send one out to you if it'll spark some interest.

I'm fortunate now in that I have the will AND the time thanks to our Guvner. I just need to get a few things cleaned up first.
