Hi, guys! I recently read a topic on another forum about the body of a resin car model, built in 2004, started to shrink, and warp. It was a very well built award winning model, featured in magazines. Needless to say, the owner/builder is devastated about this event.
My question to you guys who build a lot resin models, and use resin parts along with styrene....have you had anything like this happen to any of your builds?
Thanks!

That would be devastating...

I've heard of model builders encountering this problem with older resin body builds ...

Bucky,
Yes, resin parts can and do warp, shrink, or in other ways degenerate over time -- get brittle, crack, etc. Generally speaking, the smaller the resin parts, the less likely they are to break down. Thinner resin parts and/or hollow parts are highly susceptible to these issues.
I have opened quite a few resin aftermarket sets for my armor kits where parts, particularly thin, flat parts were terribly warped simply from gravity. While I haven't had parts warp after putting them in a build, they have cracked and if I'm being honest with myself, I fully expect those parts to breakdown eventually. I've already seen metal parts rust and vinyl tracks snap after long periods of time...resin part warping could be next.

I stick to plastic as much as I can. Warped or shrunken models...what a nightmare.

Got plenty of 72nd aircraft, a couple of 72nd tanks and quite a few 700th ships in resin, built and unbuilt.
Never had that or any other problem with any of them, have had a few issues with my own resin castings (experimental only at present), leads me to think that there’s resin and then there’s resin.
Regards OB 😉
