Hi Jed
The 35 was also known as the “Hymek”, from its Hydro-Mechanical transmission, made by Mekhydro of Germany
The Deltic was class 55 and the 22 of them built headed express services on the ECML in their heyday.
Class 73 Isn’t too much use to me, I normally Model the Cumbria/Derbyshire Area in the North of England, other times I model over the border in Scotland (West Highland usually) a 73 is more useful “on the juice” than on diesel and off the juice - I’m not modelling the outside third rail for anybody either - I do draw the line at things like that
Regards OB 😉

Regards OB 😉 We used to have a Deltic birthed in the old Loco shed and I thought she/he was lovely,I think it had a badge from one of our tank regiments on it. The 73's were used on our Brighton main line serving London Victoria to Gatwick Airport, every 15 minutes, half hour journey, under BR and then Natinal Express I believe before being taken over again, now ran by Govia Thameslink Railway

Hi Jed
Deltics were named after famous racehorses (Crepello, Alycidon etc;) or Famous Regiments (King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, The Black Watch etc;) The name came from the power unit, which was a modified Napier Deltic marine engine, used to power the Vosper MTB’s and MGB’s of WW2. The Deltic engine had 16 cylinders in three banks arranged in triangular pattern around the crankshaft, delta being the Greek word for the number three, hence the engine being named “Deltic” by Napier. There were two of them under each Deltic locomotive. There was a class 23, nicknamed “Baby Deltic”, which was a light locomotive, propelled by a single Deltic engine (the 23 looked like a shortened class 37), which were used for trip freights and suburban passenger workings around London.
As an aside, the Finsbury Park loco shed was built to service the Deltic fleet at the London end of the ECML and was taken out of service not long after the last Deltic left British Rail service. Not sure if they scrapped the depot and sold off the land it stood on, or whether they preserved it in some fashion.
You must be at one of the former Southern Region sheds if 73’s have been stabled there, 73’s don’t go off region too often or too far (Although models of 73142 “Broadlands” (The former Royal Train locomotive on the Southern Region in days gone by) and another 73 in Departmental Yellow over Dk Grey livery used to appear occasionally on my “Derwentwater” layout (Set in the Lake District on the edge of Derwentwater) when their owner (who was a great mate of mine and part of my regular layout operating team at shows) thought I wasn’t looking ! RIP Steve !
Regards to All OB 😉

Battersea Power Station eh ? Thought the cooling towers and some of the buildings had been preserved as a historic London landmark...Pink Floyd used it on the cover of their “Animals” album in 1978, with a large pink pig in the air above it. The Pink Pig was a large balloon, which broke loose and floated away across London at the end of the photo shoot, wreaking havoc on Heathrow Airport’s radar systems, bringing all air traffic into/out of Heathrow to a temporary stop, The cable snapped in exactly the right place for the bit left dangling on the balloon to be the exact wavelength of Heathrow’s main radar, causing Heathrow to switch back to an older radar setup on a different wavelength or something.
We had a similar incident out here in the early 1970’s, causing havoc with the Newcastle airport radar.. Newcastle airport shares a runway with the RAAF base, so in the end, they scrambled a Mirage fighter, which shot the balloon down. It then got embarrassing, the balloon concerned was a large inflatable Batman figure (from the 70’s TV series), which was used as a Mascot by the Aussie Navy Destroyer HMAS Vampire, which had been coming into Newcastle Harbour, for a Navy Open Day, trailing the balloon, when it broke away - oops ! 😖. Vampire was in the headlines again a few years later, cover pic on the newspaper showed her A turret with one intact gunbarrel and one that looked like a bit of corrugated cardboard hanging down, silly twits had fired that gun without removing the Tompion (weatherproof screw in plug) from the end of the barrel first... Headline was “Australian Warship Shoots Itself”. Oops again ! 😖

Blimey some trains in here Just a few Ian, just a few...
Today’s railway activity involved removing the screws holding the two baseboards together and pulling them apart (no damage to the boards) then replacing the cross members with longer pieces of carefully cut 4x1 so I now have a pair of boards 4ft x 2ft (instead of 4ft x 18ins) Having successfully carried that out, I returned to my shipyard
Regards to All OB 😉 of just a few (more trains than most bods have got !) 🤫
