Just exhumed from where its been buried under a pile of stuff, uncrated, dusted off (spider webs everywhere) and placed together.
Left hand board - operator’s side
Right hand board - operator’s side
It needs a rewire and a new control panel, small switches along the edges are for power sections on/off. Larger black switches are linked to the points by wire-in-tube and also switch the point crossing polarity. Each board is 4ft x 18ins 3x1 frames, topped with 7mm structural grade ply. Intention is to extend it with further boards 4ft x 18ins, no set trackplans as yet (my best layouts were all with trackplans I devised on the spot, according to what points, buildings etc; I had in stock at the time. No set timetable for when, totally on an “As I feel like it” basis.
Before anything happens, I first need to test my 4 handbuilt DC controllers and make sure all are still working, think at least two of them need a transistor replaced to get them controlling again (at present locomotives go full speed on both, in the correct direction, but with no speed control whatsoever. Replacing the dead transistors will be easy, as soon as I find out where my soldering iron, solder etc; have got to ! 4 soldering irons carefully packed away in a safe place, (has to be a safe place ‘cos I’m blowed if I can find any of them ! 😖)
I’ll keep you posted as things happen ! 🤓
Regards to All OB 😉

Looks like a great beginning to a very nice switching layout.

Thanks peoples ! 👍
@ Joe... This one is fairly new, tracked and part wired before I moved, then “forgotten about” (with no malice aforethought, I assure you) 🤫
@ Bucky.. Don’t hold yer breath, still got to find somewhere to set it up.. have a pretty good idea where, but it’ll mean a substantial rearrangement of my stash ! 😖
@ Jed... Just to be clear, the dust was on the layout, NOT me ! 😆
@ Ernie... Current theory is that these two boards will be stripped of scenery and used as hidden storage/staging yards each end of a layout to be built between them, scenic items removed from these boards will be re-used elsewhere on the layout. . 🤔
Nothing set in stone yet, but it will be quite idiosyncratic, being my first non-exhibition layout ever !

Too busy for dust on you mate 😃 A friend if mine had a dad who was mad keen on trains,he had a lay-out around the inside three walls and garage door, the track across the main door and access door from the house was made to fold up against the wall/door when not in use. As a young lad I was amazed

Thanks Jed, but there’ll be plenty of room for it to settle on me for the next 6 weeks or so... Spent most of today up at the casualty dept of the local hospital...
Mate of mine gave me a lift up to the hospital, which wasn’t where we were intending to go, but that became our destination after he slammed the car door on my wrist... its rather badly busted I’m afeared.... 🤬🤬🤬☠️☠️☠️🤬🤬🤬🤯 and other printable ways of expressing the pain at the time and now (despite a fairly large dose of painkillers) I’ve come to the conclusion that I positively HATE the pain, it dangwell hurts !
Learning to do everything left handed (I’m a right hander) has its funny moments, which I’m sure I’ll have a giggle or two about once this ruddy pain goes away

Thanks Fellers - the pain has eased, no painkillers needed (as long as I stop whenever the wrist starts to hurt) 😖 So things are happening in stits and err... 😳🤭 Fits and starts..🤫. Had a bit of an “accident” (with malice aforethought !) today... as follows...
It all started when I found these, plus my cordless drill and a pair of wirecutters... 🤔
Then these kinda “fell off in my hand”... 😆
This lot came off for re-use later (“persuaded” with a blunt chisel).... 🤫
This lot hit the floor after I touched it very gently with the wirecutters 🤭
Then after a pile of short screws holding the tops were removed (cordless drill style) it went from looking as it did in my first post, to a much cleaner and lighter version
Reason being that after much thought, the existing track layout did not fit anywhere into my intended scheme of things, so off came the board tops (for once I had merely screwed them down, rather than glued and screwed), and its two more boards I don’t have to build ! Bonus ! 😆... In fact, with the other two boards of the same dimension already extant in the back room, I’m pretty right for the baseboards I’m going to need, might have to build one more board actually, but the timber for that is already in stock. 😎

I’ve just spent a very pleasant 3 hours exhuming all my locomotives and passenger DMU’s (Diesel Multiple Units) and running them along an improvised test track ... 🤓
Its just a bit of track, drawing pinned down onto a bit of 4x1 inch timber, didn’t clean the track or any wheels (wheels were all cleaned and the locos and DMU’s all got a good light “oil round” before being put away about 5 years ago.. To my suprise, nay utter astonishment, all 4 controllers still worked as well as the day I built them 😲 Out of 65 Locomotives, there were 4 failures 😖, 3 of which will be easy enough to fix 🤫and the fourth should come good with some replacement motor parts.
DMU’s - out of the 9 single and two car units, all worked as soon as they went onto the track and got a few volts. 👍
A good day thus far... Pix of locos later, its lunchtime and I’m hungry ! 🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍟🍟🍟
