Four days ago, Mr. FedEx delivered a 14 pound box containing a board game I backed on Kickstarter back in February of 2018. The game is called Edge of Darkness and is an intriguing fantasy themed game where the players are leaders of elite guilds within a city that must prepare for and ultimately fight off an onslaught of evil over eight turns.
One of the components in this game is an awesome "cube tower", into which players will be dropping cubes in their colors to represent the growing threat to the city. These cubes are randomly spit out at the bottom of the tower into three areas, each represented by a specific enemy. The tower is a wonderfully unique component that has never before been produced for a board game and therefore is a centerpiece of interest when the game is set up on the table. The problem is that while the molding is outstanding, it was just a plain light gray color (as are all the 28mm miniatures). I couldn't let this stay bare plastic and spent the last two days painting it.
I wanted to make the tower dark and foreboding, as befitting its purpose. I primed it in black, painted out the cobblestone areas in typical shades of brown, made the brickwork a reddish terra cotta, and adding highlights in a dark grey. I then painted the windows using brass metalizer and added some dark blue to some of the openings. I'm much happier with how it looks now, but still may add in more details and highlights a little later. Here's what it looks like now:
Now to actually get in a few games!
