While waiting on some "painting-outside" weather, I pulled this little sports car down from the shelf: I grabbed this one off eBay a few years back. I knew it had been started. I had in mind to use the body in another project, but the paint that was put on it so good, I don't want to mess with it! So, I think I'll just redo what needs work, and build it as a 240Z. The engine was mounted in the chassis, but it sat crooked. Looking closely, I noticed the engine was not assembled very well. I removed it and started taking it apart. There is a fair amount of flash on several parts, keeping them from lining up correctly, so I'll clean that up, and rebuild it. The interior is not assembled very well, either. It will be dismantled, too. Here's the paint that was already on this one: Very smooth, no dirt, good and shiny....just a wee bit thick for my liking. I'm gonna go with it, tho. The bad thing is, the hood(bonnet) is missing. I'll be in the market for a bonnet(hood) for a Revell Datsun 240Z, kit #85-2392. If I get one, I'll paint it flat black, or cover it with carbon fibre decal material.

Hoping you find a hood or someone can make a resin copy of theirs for you!!!

I have the engine block, fan, fanbelt, fuel pump, front and rear carbs, air cleaner, intake manifold, and exhaust manifold ready for some repaint, and reassembly. I'm not gonna put a great deal of detail into this build. Just a casual little redo of a partially started eBay find!!

Too bad one of the extra Vette hoods I have left over from the Stingray won't fit it...

Right. I don't think it would be long enuff for the 240Z.

Upon close inspection of the wheels and tires, I found out the wheels are from some kinda Toyota kit. They don't exactly fit in with the Datsun theme of this build! HAHA The tires are nice....Pirelli P7 for the back, and Michelin MXX3 for the front. I may scrounge up something entirely different for this build. These seem a bit wide for the 240Z.

This has turned out to be a glue bomb with a well painted body! I tackled the interior and chassis. Disassembly went well: It seems that whoever built this really liked the tube glue! It's everywhere! And not much attention was given to making sure the locating pins hit their marks, either! That's why I took the rear axle assembly out. I'll clean up the parts, add brass pins where the plastic ones broke off, and reinstall the axle assembly. The roll bar will disappear, the seats will go into the parts bin, to be replaced, and the cobbled up fuel cell will also disappear. The dashboard is not the one that goes in a 1970 Datsun 240Z: It doesn't match the instruction sheet, at all, and caused the builder to carve out a large section of the transmission hump: Maybe I can fix this with some sheet styrene.

Amazingly, the best part about this one is the red paint on the body!

I found some wheels and tires for this one: It took a few minutes to find the wheels. They are four lug wheels, which is what a 240Z had. I don't know where these wheels came from, but I think they will look okay on the little red ride.

I also found out that there are several pieces missing from this job. I ended up breaking open a new kit I had in the stash, in order to get the parts I need for this one. I'll use the body in that kit for the kit-bash I had planned on doing.

Shame about the excessive work you're having to do but I'm sure it will be worth it,I agree with Joe reference the wheels
