The case itself, just a quick word, As my wife wanted the shop bought "Ikea" glass cabinets out the liveing room and with no real room to stand them upright in the spare room i decided to make my own wall mounted case useing as much of the glass as i could from the old store bought ones, this determined what lenght/depth etc the case would be,
doing it like this has given me 5 shelves (inc the base) to mount models on, which are about 1,450mm long, much better than the 3 cars to a shelf in the old unit,my son in law provided the ply and timber so i needed to buy side glass and two perspex "front doors", hinges etc,, with some foam draught excluder this case will be pretty much dust free unlike the olduns,
quick word on the mirrors in there, i originally bought two large sheets of that polycarbonate mirror finish from an ebay seller, (same place as the perspex front doors) they cut it to size for ya but you can cut it witha saw, i didn't fancy that tho, their now stuck to the back of the new case, i found five mirror tiles in the cupboard which i stuck on the base, (been tryin to make this thing as cheaply as possible)
The old units

A 1mm tip on the iron is handy for very small jobs
Right!, lighting it!!! ,
first tho this link should hopefully take you to the "SMD" light strips i'm going to use, they are avalible all over the place so you may find some cheaper than these,

After messing about makeing my own lights for the old case i found these light strips, much easier and less messing than hooking up loads of seperate led's, they are very bright, cool running and low "load"
These light strips are easy to fit, can be cut to the lenghts req (must be cut every 3 led's, on the copper tabs marked, they have sticky back tape so can be fitted under a shelf to shine down on the shelf below, and run from a transformer also available from the place i got the light strips from,
This is one of the cut off locations, you'll see these every three led's, these tapes are basicly a load of sets of three joined together, as ya see the polatity's are marked all along the tape,
a tip when soldering on to these small connections, work quick, gentally hold the tape in croc clip as shown with the jaws over the last led, this will "heat sink" heat away from the led and avoid damageing it, flux the tape and the wires, tin the tape and the wires, and then solder the wires on, with a hot iron it'll only take a second, dont linger on there
The wires soldered on
OK! these pics are how i did it, it looks worse than it is and this is because i want to fit four colors of these light strips each on it's own transformer, if you only want white or any one color it'll be much easier,
Basicly you need to cut your strips to lenght, solder long enough wires to each strip to allow you to be able to join them all up, join all negitive leads together and all positive leads together and extend them to connect to your tramsformer, the type of transformer you'll need will depend (roughly) on how many meters of light strip your useing, the ebay store i got mine from were very helpfull and emailed me a list of tranformers with item numbers from theire site, this is the email--------
(think these guys are Chinese!)

Dear ian619curry,
Hello,
Thanks for your message!
1.The strip in our shop can be cut every three leds, the lenght of the each three leds is about 5CM, thank you.
2.you are weclome to connect the strip together by use one transformer for it. if the distance between the two stirp is less than 20CM, you are weclome to use below connector, item number:320724194682. if the distance between the two strip is more than 20CM, you are welcome to use the extensive wire for it, the item number of the extensive wire in our shop is:320726696142.
3.What is the total length of the strip? different lenght need different transformer for it, the below is all the transformer in our shop for your choose, you are welcome to choose it accordingly to your length ,thank you:
Item number:220779353683, it is DC12V2A transformer, it can work for 5M 3528 SMD LED Strip Light 300 led strip in our shop

The negitive connector blocks with small links to loop so both connectors are linked together, i used these small blocks as they were all i had but you can use one bigger block,

The wired neg connectors, one for each shelf of light strips,
Neg and the four color connector blocks in place,
The wiring harness exiting the bottom of the case,
The led strips fitted (well the white ones) and temp tested on a gell cell battery, (bloody bright!)
Thats about it, if you click on the pics youll get the bigger picture,
it's a bit messed up pic wise as i loaded em on another photo host site and aint used to it
