So...my oldest daughter's boyfriend asked me on Sunday for my blessing to propose to my daughter in about 18 months. I sure hope someone doesn't find the body before then...  haha!
I'm not a violent man, and my daughters keep telling me that I need to reach out and befriend their boyfriends. However, I see it as my job as father to make those boys so afraid of me that they'll NEVER mess with my girls! I make sure to remind them that I don't have a gun, but I DO have access to a backhoe. I DO know how to use a sawzall. I DO have a 10' deep pit (former pond) in my back yard. I DO have 5 tons of concrete in the back yard and access to large amounts of dirt, gravel and other such "fillers". I also remind them that nobody's ever seen or heard from the doctor that gave my newborn daughter a shot and made her cry 5 minutes after she was born.
Some of this may or may not be true...It may or may not also be true that I randomly look at them while laughing menacingly before returning to my "secret website reading".
A little mortal terror never killed anyone did it?

Hey, you are only engaging in that time-honored tradition of scaring your daughters' boyfriends in order to keep them on their toes and honest. Like you said, you have a responsibility to protect your daughters from any harm one of them may cause them. Besides, if they want you to befriend them; just tell them there will be plenty of time for that when she meets a guy whose love for her overcomes his fear of you and makes her an honest woman. I'd say the one daughter found one if he's willing to approach you to ask for her hand. Way to go Scott, keep up the excellent work!

If he goes astray Scott you can always invoke the three "S" rule; shoot, shovel and shut up. Bahahahhaaaaaaaaaaa................ I personally think it's harder to take in the boyfriends rather than the girlfriends. The girls are easy, my son's have to deal with them. But the boys, different deal all together. If he's gonna be my pal, eventually, he's got to make it thru the gauntlet, so to speak. Trust isn't just granted so easily, IMHO. Congrats on getting one soon to be married off Scott, Bravo! |
