I've been blathering on about cleaning up the stash, and since I have so few complete kits due to my habit of pirating parts, that means using it up or, I don't know what. So, here's two that have been, in one case, on the shelf for years and stagnant, or just now started but in the back of my mind for a long time. First, a Tamiya M48 that I set up to carry a dozer, Vietnam era, then stalled when I realized adapting the M9 dozer from the Academy kit was beyond my reach. I squatted the front, and went to town. For giggles I fitted a pair of AFV Club tracks (Ahoy matey!) and had motivation, leading me to purchase the Dragon Magach5 with mine roller. All I wanted was the ERA and associated IDF stuff, more later. As it sits now: I added about 1.5mm to the turret bottom, a metal gun tube, and quit. Since then, I have picked up a resin turret, origin unknown, and the aforementioned Dragon Magach5. Hmmm, Magach with Nochri? I also have the Desert Eagle Magach5 battering ram. Okay, back to the bench. Then there's this: "This" being a Takom "Brave Tiger" hull, modified front idlers and deleted #2 shocks, Academy aluminum wheels and Tamiya early drive sprockets with Dragon tracks, all topped my a Dragon M60 turret and aluminum gun tube. Aves putty was used for the gun mantlet cover. Yup, I bought three more kits in the quest to "thin the stash". This one will be US, Germany in the 60's, with some bright exercise markings. So, that Takom Brave Tiger? That's a nice M48 turret on the M60A3 hull, giving me a much better turret that Dragon's effort, only leaving me to source another gun tube, no prob since I surely have something in the stash somewhere. Dragon's M60 hull is wonky, as are all their 105mm gun tubes, so I ahve another boat-load of spares. And to heap it on, I also started assembly on an AFV Club M60A1.

T'anks, will do! I have to say, the Takom kit is sweet, great fit, nice detail, all the good things. I started the turret from it, to be used on the M48, and it's a gem, truly. Pics soon.

T'anks OJ. So, a bit more on both. The M60 is close to OB, for me anyway, and progressing nicely. The Takom parts are sweet, can't say the same for the Dragon turret, but what the heck, I have putty! IMG_7265 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I had some fun doing the mantlet cover from Aves putty, good stuff and easy to work with. The Dragon bustle rack was a bit fiddly, but it's on and looks the part. IMG_7266 by Russel Baer, on Flickr The M48, or MAgach5, is also coming along. I caught myself thinking: "Why didn't I just use the Dragon M48 hull too?", but then I thought :No, I'm gonna use this Tamiya kit that I started maybe five years ago", and that's all I have to say about that. Except, it's getting a whole bunch of Dragon parts, including the engine doors, tool boxes, bla bla bla..... I even dug out a Verlinden M48/60 update set and used a resin gun tube from it, not my favorite but it was a nice part, and believe it or not, straight. I also got to use the Desert Eagle armored air cleaner boxes, and they are really nice. Kudos to Michael Mass and the crew.

Nice work indeed Russ! How in the heck did you keep that gun tube straight??? It was actually a pretty good fit, but now I'm knocking my head to see what rattles: I have TWO DefModel Magach3 updates with excellent gun tubes and mantlets, forgot all about them. So speaking of Magachs: And the M60, ready for primer: More later, getting into the ERA on the Magach, pure fiction on Dragon's part so lots of scratching coming up.
