My wish list contains a good mean truck  looking for either a super duty ford or an older GM. Grew up with a ‘77 Tank...we suburban 3/4 ton 4x4 with heavy duty rear end and granny gear. Absolutely NO frills on that truck. IRL would love to score an F-250 or a Raptor |

Absolutely NO frills on that truck. IRL would love to score an F-250 or a Raptor I tend to stay away from anything ford related in RL. I am and will always be a Chevy Man. Ive owned 3 S-10s in the past. I would love to get the new Chevy Colorado ZR2 Midnight Edition!!!! For two reasons 1. Im a chevy man, and 2. Its about 25 grand less than a Raptor!!!!  |

I grew up a Chevy kid. I always wanted a stepside C/K 1500 (actually, I wanted one of those black 454 SS models) UNTIL Ford released the 1993 Ford Ranger Splash. (I was a junior in high school) So, when I was 20 and between colleges on the prowl for a truck, I looked at the S-10 and the Ranger. After test driving both, I settled on a 1995 Ranger Splash (4.0, 5-speed, 2WD) because it was more comfortable and felt more powerful than the S-10 (with the 4.3). In 4 years, I put 150,000 miles on that little Ranger and sold it to my dad. He put 70k on it and gave it back to me. We sold it 3 yrs ago and it's still going with over 250,000 miles on it and no major engine or tranny work ever done to it. When I sold him that Ranger, I bought a 2002 Sport Trac 4x4 with that same 4.0 V6 (albeit 7 years newer with updates). I put 110,000 on that truck in 3 years and at 16-years and 222,000, it's still kicking strong with no major engine or tranny work done. Similar story with our Expedition that now has 240,000 on it. It doesn't help that the Chevy/GM dealers around here are absolutely terrible when it comes to service after the sale! I do like the Chevys but they don't feel right to me. The seats aren't at the right height or something. I got used to that '77 Suburban and even the newer Ford seats seem to be similar height (albeit MUCH more comfortable!). I had been looking at either that Colorado pictured above or the new Ranger coming out next year, but there isn't enough legroom in the back seat when I get in the front. My Explorer Sport Trac has the legroom of an explorer on the wheelbase of a Ranger so what I give up in bed length, I have in interior comfort but also has the payload capacity of a ranger of that day so I can pull whatever I need and have a nice 4' toolbox. |

Oh, and my "little" (as my brother in law always tells me) Sport Trac actually pulled a 2012 Dodge 2500 (diesel) 4x4 quad cab out of a ditch in front of our house. (Same brother-in-law's truck) I'll NEVER let him live that down...He wouldn't even come ask me, he sent a friend up to my door to have him ask me to pull it out! haha! |
