Yeah, I know how that is. I'm not patient either, that's why I work on so many models at the same time. I feel like I'm making progress without having to wait for things to dry first.

So, Duke, pardon my ignorance here, but this will the the first model that I have to decal with flat paint. I know I have to put a gloss coat on it to do that but I was wondering on the process. From what I've gathered, I need to put on a gloss coat on it so the decals will stick. Then after the decals are on it, I put a flat coat back over it to take the gloss off? My wife has Rust-oleum clear gloss coat spray paint that I was thinking of using and then I have some dullcote that I bought a bit ago. Does that sound good? Also, this Dark Gull Gray is terrible to work with (brushing) that is. I have the fuselage pretty much done, but I have to touch it up with some sanding again.  (Have 3k,5k, and 7k sandpaper coming today) |

She's getting there Bucky. I have the bombs painted and installed. The light gray on the bottom is all the way I want and I'm about ready to decal it, but I'd like to have everything done so that when I decal, I just decal everything and then I'm done.

Normally I work on my models in the evening but I knew I wouldn’t be able to move tonight—in fact, can’t even get up and snap the pic! Without giving too many details, our family is taking in a woman and her autistic son while the husband tries to get help for an addiction. To do this we’re having to clean up my brother in laws barn and clean his house (since we are on same property and his house is bigger, she’s going there). Always the bachelor and pack rat we’ve burned a lot, moved a lot of books and moved 40+ computers out of the house...10 hrs today and 5 yesterday already. It’s going to be rough, but I think the Lord has his hand on this and it’s the right thing to do. |

Looking fantastic Scott! I apologize for not answering sooner: I was in San Diego at the Comicon convention and had no time to log in. This is the first day I have any kind of time for this. You did well putting the decals over the gloss. I typically will re-gloss the model afterward to sandwich the decals in between, then I apply a dullcoat. Looks like your decal work is exceptional.
I commend you also for helping someone out too. I will be praying for her and her husband, as well as your family for doing this. Well done.

Thanks! I find that the decals try my patience the most, so I brought it to work and will do a few each day at lunch until I'm done. It's currently sitting next to my Super Hornet and when you look closely at both, you can definitely see my evolution as a modeler. The first Super Hornet is probably going to go home to my shop with me and stay there. The second Super Hornet is going to get squadron markings rather than the trainer decals that came with it. Ya'all are so modest, but I do owe my fast learning curve to all ya'all! This group is awesome for helping us all hone our craft! |
