I have a question about them. But I'm having a brain fart and I don't know where to ask. I only see an In progress and Completed diorama section, and a question doesn't fit in either lol. I don't really see a Modeling Questions section??? Unless im blind lol

Ben when I built my airplane factory I just used the things I had around in my shop and yard along with some putty for the rock siding... I used thin plywood, cut up pine, garden rocks, wet dry sandpaper for shingles and stucko, etc... I really didn't spend much... I had some old grass and gravel I bought during a railroad sale... just watch for whatever you can find my brother!!! Some guys use kitty litter painted for gravel also or dirt and sand right out of the yard...

If you're looking for a simple garage type dio, there are some inexpensive sets of tools that would go in a 1/24 scale garage. They cost no more than a kit would. As for walls and a floor, something like a sheet of scrap wood or foam board, cut into pieces and made into a right angle for the back two walls around a floor works well. More wood or foam board would allow you to have a third wall if you want. Stiff cardboard would also work in a pinch. As for a tile floor or tiles on the walls, you could easily find a print you like online and print it on your printer to glue down on your floor and walls. Signs, calendars, pinups and car ads could also be shrunk down and printed to go on the walls of the diorama. Stiff cardboard or cardstock could be used to build toolboxes. Scrap plastic; particularly I-beam stock from Plastruc or other construction type styrene could be used to assemble and engine lift.
These are the best ideas I have for building one of these on a strict budget. I hope some of these ideas work for you.

I've built two different dios and didn't spend a cent on either of them. Their made of stuff I had in the garage and in the model room that I've collected over the yrs along with some acrylic tube paint or just plain ole house paint..

One way to save money Ben is like the old Railroad layout, one back wall instead of the whole building... makes a great backdrop...

Ty all for the advice, Some good ideas there. Also I have seen some nice wall designs online i wanted to print out, But cannot due to not having a printer. When the time comes I guess I can go to the library and pay the 35 cents a page to print out in color lol. Guess I should start checking around in my shed and woods

Always think in scale. It's amazing what you can use when you try to relate it to scale model size.

As I was wandering around my yard earlier I was thinking how much you can find to use in dioramas for no cost... pebbles, gravel, broken brick, sand, and plain old dirt glued to a board or Styrofoam. Moss from trees also works as do twigs and roots which you can add glue to and sprinkle green herbs from your spice cabinet for leaves... you can spray them with reds and yellows for fall colors once the glue dries. For tropical plants look in the pet store aquarium plant section for some awesome plants... an inexpensive set of pastels can be rubbed on sandpaper to make a powder for weathering too and water base paints like Folk art or Apple Barrel are inexpensive at Wal-mart and craft stores for dry brushing with easy cleanup. Find nice thick brushes for this in the ladies makeup section... Wal-Mart has inexpensive ones. Just some more thoughts for you!!!
