Developing the latest acquisition
002 by Mark Hartig, on Flickr
The Ruger precision bolt rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmore. 24" barrel, about 12.5 pounds as you see it, 2.5 lb trigger, 10 round detachable box magazine, Burris Eliminator III 4-16x laser rangefinding scope. I will be handloading for it and will try first the Hornady 140 grain A-Max bullet with a ballistic co-efficient of .570 in front of 40 grains of IMR-4350 which should give me a muzzle velocity of 2700 feet per second. Given the high ballistic co-efficient of this bullet I fully expect supersonic velocity out to 1400 yards.
If this works out like I think it will the speed goats are gonna be in trouble come this fall and I will be eating very well
Regards, Mark

Magnificent! Please send me out some goat meat when you get one. That would be fun to grill on my barbecue!

Thanks gents
Barrel break-in is in progress, it will require another twenty rounds before I get all the burrs knocked out of the rifling. Today's findings at the local range show this rifle is capable of first shot hits on a 12x12" steel plate at seven hundred yards. Below is a three shot group at one hundred yards with non precision reloads and a 10-20MPH swirling tailwind. The square grid outlined in red measures one inch a side

I am stoked; the first test has been passed.
I'll purchase some Norma match brass cases, Redding S type match reloading dies with a carbide neck expander and micrometer bullet seating die, match primers and switch powder to Hogdon 4350 which this cartridge was pretty much developed around. Once break in is complete and I begin to produce precision reloads I should be able to make one hole at 100 yards with this machine and possibly reach one thousand yard accuracy; judging from today I'd say there's a pretty good chance of this
Regards, Mark
