My workshop friends

Since I was a very young boy I have had a dog. Since I was in my mid-20’s I have always had 2.

In the last few years my hobbies have revolved around creating physical things. (My career has always been in tech from systems support to systems administration and now software development) Also, for the last 20+ years I have suffered from chronic migraines. As conventional treatment has failed, I have moved to less conventional ones. For example, stress management through landscaping, woodworking and now modeling.

These two are nearly always by my side even in the shop. Buddy, the Lab mix, is big and lazy, content to sleep near me (until I get frustrated—when he goes and hides). Holly, the border collie, is hyper and full of energy and literally forces me to put tools away and pet her when I get frustrated.

I find that I am happier and better at all hobbies when I do what they “tell” me!

Beautiful foot warmers!!! I really miss my lab!!! One of these days when things slow down and I have some time to train a puppy another will be in my life!!!

I miss my twelve year old Shih Tzu!! Maxx was the one that loved the convertible rides!! This pesky cat I have now can't be trusted in the hobby room. She got in there a few days ago without me knowing, and rearranged some stuff!! What part of "OFF LIMITS" does she not understand??LOL

We have had at least one dog over the last 27 or so years,it was difficult in the forces but we managed,since leavi we have had a dog and at least one cat but as many as 1 dog and 4 maybe 5 cats with other fostered cats at the end of their lives and unable to be adopted,now we have 2 dogs and 1 cat,a pain at times but also great companions and de-stressors

Those are some lovely companions. I am more of a cat person myself.


This is Sylvester resting on my lap while I take a break from my modeling. He had come to comfort me when I was dealing with a frustration situation and his sleeping there for a while helped a lot:



He knows not to get on the shelves or jump up on any tables. He will occasionally jump up on my lap to inspect my work on the workbench, but he doesn't do anything to any parts or tools on the bench.

Misty is my other cat. She is considerably older and just comes in to settle down and sleep in my hobby room while I'm working:



Occasionally, she will 'bug' me for attention when I'm getting too frustrated. Sometimes she doesn't even wait for that, but that still helps me stay focused and avoid problems when I sit back and give her love. Many times, I saw myself heading for disaster until she "forced" me to pet her and so I was able to avoid all that.

Thanks Joe, Bear is an Exotic Short Hair rescued from The Cats Protection when my wife was a Vet Nurse there,all our cats have been rescue ones or fostered and have all been amazing. Bear was the runt of the litter and left to his own devices until rescued and due to this doesn't really act very cat like!!

I do miss Lady my Rottweiler/Black Lab mix. She always was at my side while modeling at the bench until age wouldn't let her go up and down the steps then she would lay at the top waiting for me to come up...
