I have a lot of aluminum sheet ( it's .015 thick) from pipe insulation jackets and I've seen ppl selling these for 6 ta 12 bucks a pair and being the cheap skate I am, I decided ta make my own. I used a 5/8s hole punch ta punch the blanks out. This size works for 1/25th scale. I used an old slot car axle and rim as a mandrel and my trusty drill.
I use tape ta hold them so I can file the back flat.
Mount them on the mandrel with a couple dabs of SA and run a file over the face ta even them out
Then take some fine sandpaper 320 is what I used I think, and something for a lube and start puttin the groves on.
Once ya get them lookin like ya want. Take the edge of a knife and pop them off, wash them and clear them with lacquer.
It's just that simple folks. You can even polish them if ya want them ta look like chrome.
