So primer's on the M-12 but still tacky and the conversion set for the M-30 has not yet arrived. This prompted me to pull the following off the shelf which has been sitting there in basecoat for a year or so and finish it.
By way of clarification, I once read a story about the Marines facing a Japanese attack on one of the Solomon Islands, I think. Apparently Japanese grenades were somewhat football shaped with two studs protruding from them, and the fuse was lit by striking one of these studs sharply against something. One Japanese officer leading the charge had one of these, and struck the fuse stud against the side of his helmet when it promptly went off with predictable results. This caused some measure of hilarity amongst the Marines and the story quickly became legend, with the phrase "Made in Japan" the unofficial title.
Who knows what this says about me but I also thought (and still do) think it's a funny story, largely because I can't dredge up much sympathy for people who are chucking grenades at our Marines.
Since depiction of the actual event would be difficult and somewhat tasteless to boot, here a Marine M-3 crew is in the process of removing and discarding a Japanese satchel charge which has failed to explode
