Well as the title says both Bucky and I are going to do a duel build with the Revell Jeep Honcho's and OZ has decided to join us also with the same kit as Bucky's!!! Mine is the new release and his is the 1980's kit! I sent Bucky the correct stripes for his kit as he wanted the color I am not using as his old kit had the wrong stripes included!!! So follow along, rib along, have fun as three of us Honcho's of OSM duel it out in good ol' Jeep fashion!!!

I think this tooling was done about 1980 for a 1981 issue of the Honcho. My kit is a re-issue from 1996, molded in black. There is no snowmobile in my kit, so I may rummage through the parts bins to come with something to toss in the back. As Joe stated, my decals are not entirely correct for a 1980 Honcho. I could make them work if I painted the truck black, but I want to use another color. Thanks to Joe, I will have a very nice, usable set of stripes for my build. I'll get sprue shots a bit later for this one.

Well said Head Honcho!!!
From 1975, Jeep tried making their pickups more "car-like" and appealing to consumers, starting with the Pioneer package, featuring a fancier interior, woodgrain interior and exterior trim, chromed front bumpers, window moldings, and wheel covers, dual horns, and other “car” features.[1] From 1976-1983 the "Honcho" trim package was offered on the J10 pickup. It consisted of bold striping and decals, and was offered with factory extras such as the Levi's interior or a roll bar. The content of the Honcho package varied from year to year, but "always included the wide-track look of the Cherokee Chief."[7] The Honcho was one in a series of special decal packages offered for J-Series trucks in the mid to late 1970s, which included the 1977–1979 Golden Eagle[8] and the 1978 "10-4" version which offered an optional Citizens' Band radio along with the decals. The Honcho package was only available on the sportside (stepside) and short bed trucks. Between 1980 and 1983, only 1,264 of the sportside versions were produced.

That's some good info! I saw some of the stepside pickups on Google. Pretty cool, but might take some doing to convert this kit.

I believe I'm the first one in. These were very tough Trucks but subject to an early death by rust.

That's the same kit I have Bucky. Almost bought one of those back in '80, but ended up buying a used '72 1210 International Crew Cab instead. Wish they had a model of that.

Thanks for looking in, Jeff. Hope we don't disappoint!! That International would be an interesting model build, Bruce. I'd be up for one of those! Since you have a Honcho kit, do ya wanna join in this duel? I'm sure Joe wouldn't mind. Here is what I found in the box: There is no snowmobile in this kit, so I will rummage thru the parts bins for something to toss in the back. The decals: Not much here. These are not entirely accurate for a 1980 Honcho. The black accents are missing on these. They would work, if I kept the body color black. I'm planning to use a different color, so these wouldn't work. Joe is coming to the rescue by sending his spare set of stripes. I may use the white "HONCHO" decal for the windshield.
