Howdy folks, this is AMT's classic old mold '57 Bel Air that's been around for 40 years. It's like a fine wine, it just gets better with age. I have it painted Testors Colors by Boyd True Blue Pearl, cleared, and is now ready for Bare Metal Foiling. I'm not really sure I like the way the interior is going, color keyed to the body with white, and it as well will have BMF trim everywhere. My wife likes it though, so I guess I'll leave it be. ;D It's pretty much gonna have stock appearance except for Cragar Mags which seems to be standard fare for a good deal of '57s you see. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I like the interior just fine the way you have it. It will look better after final assembly, I'm sure! Cragars are always welcome on my builds, along with Keystone Klassics.

Sorry hadn't been here in a bit, the new year has kept me busy. Work is proceeding slowly on the '57. No new pics, but the engine is done, and working on the chassis. Decided on the Keystone mags instead of Cragars. Gonna start on the Bare metal foil trim in a couple of days. I will have pics by the weekend.. Cheers!!

When i saw the "new post" i thought you'd finished it still glad it's progressing, bmf is fiddley aint it? currently doing the 49 merc and it a right pain, trim around the windows is very fine/thin which makes it even more fiddley,

Well HH all i can say really is buy a sheet and have a go, i'm certainly no expert but i've managed to get it on looking ok, i think it's one of the best auto modeling accessorys invented, really finishes off a car, one sheet will do about three chrome bombs (50's and 60's chrome and fins) all ya need is a new scalple blade, a cocktail stick or tooth pic (wood) and some cotton swabs (Q tips) cut a bit longer and wider than the trim you want to cover and gentally lay it on, press it vey gently just to get it to stay in place, gentaly rub it anong the trim with a swab being carefull not to press it onto the pane too well, it will peel off again but fi you top coat paint aint too weel bonded with the base or primer it'll lift the paint, once it's stuck along the highest point of the trim gentally smooth it over each side then gentally run the wood pic along the trim to panel detail, again run the swab along to press it onto the trim, with a new blade in the scalple carefully run it anong the join, dont press too hard, useually the weight of the scalple is enought to cut the bmf, with tweezers gentally pull away the excess bmf, anf finally run the swab back and forth to press out any bit not stuck down and also polish up the foil, some bits are tricky like wheel arches, name detail etc, mainly it's just practice mate, dont worry if ya f##k it up, you can always pull it off and have another go, took me quite a time to get it more or less looking right, and i still mess up, if you like i'll take some pics of when i do the 49 merc side trim and a window or two, the stuff does fold round detail very well but it will tear easy, there is a spray on system to get chrome effect, forget the name of it, i've never tried it, i think ya spray on some black paint stuff and before it completly dries you spray this other stuff on and it goes chrome, i like the bmf mainly due to silver paint is never as shiny plus my hands and eyes aint what they used to be when i look at old pics of what i used to do by hand i wonder how the heck i did it, the dials on the dash on that REO i did by hand, i could never do that now,

Well, I had to chuck the BMF I had, it was all wrinkled and when I cut out a spot, and went to peel it off, it ripped wherever there was a wrinkle. So, I have a new sheet ordered, and will get back on it in a bit. Thanks for being patient!

pretty sure bmf sort of has a sell by date, if you had it for ages it dosen't seem to stick as well, also think they advise keeping in a cool place, had mine in the fridge for ages ;D

I just checked a BMF package. I didn't find a 'sell by' date, but there is a note on there about placing it in the fridge. I've never done that, as the fridge in my kitchen is off limits to my hobby stuff!! hahaha Maybe I need one of those little ones to put in the hobby room just for BMF.....and Dr. Pepper.....and beer!!!! Also, I have had new sheets of BMF that didn't seem to stick very well, so for me, it's kinda hit and miss!!
