I put this one here as i never got to finish it, made it to this stage and then had the idea of useing fibre-glass resin for the sea as i wanted the stern to be slightly visible under water, well the resin got red hot and melted the hull, cracked all over the place so the whole deal went in the trash
what the dio is supposed to depict is the ramming of the dry dock gates at st nazair (?) in nazi occupied france, the british nave had this great idea (as useual) to take an american "lend-lease" four piper destroyer and alter it to give a glanceing resemblance to the "Z" type german destroyer/patrols, pack the bow with high explosives and ram it into the dock gates thus trapping the german battleship bismarck in there and keep her from messing with us, however as with all best laid plane the bloody bismarck wasn't at home when the Cambletown called,
so the bravery of here crew managed to ram the gates putting the dock out of action afor a few precious weeks, those of the crew and accompanying motor torpedo boats which were full od comando's that wern't killed on the run in or the fire fight in the surrounding docks area were captured and went to concentration camps,
the big bang!!! the explosives didn't go off when they were supposed to, so the germans who wondered wtf these crazy british had hoped to achieve started swarming all over the wrecked Campbletown which was well and truly wedged into the gates, about an hour or so late it went off takeing many germans with it,
a good film more or less telling the tale of this ship (but not named campbletown) is "THE GIFT HORSE" starring Trevor Howard, it's black and white and made just after the war which is prob why the real name wasn't used, good film tho,
the basic kit was the revell campbletown, 1/350th, kits comes as the original 4 piper american destroyer,
makeing the damaged bow was a right nightmare, also had to build in some internal detail where the hull was ripped open, plenty of brass stock was used, if i did it again i'd use "clear casting resin" for the sea and actually measure the hardner instead of guessing
