This is a sample of the Shermans I've done over the years. I have a penchant for exotic and obscure variants, as you will see...

Would you say he has a plethora of Shermans?? Those are just the good ones worth photographing. I have several more oldies which suffer from serious detail inaccuracies and not-quite-correct markings, since I built them long before my reference library swelled to its current size. The worst is a truly awful M36, made by combining the ancient Testors/Italeri M36B1 with a scratchbuilt hull using plans published in Fine Scale Modeler decades ago. I cringe every time I look at it, which isn't often.

Everyone of them looks great! As for the 'awful M36', I'd be looking on it with pride and gratitude for all the lessons learned from building it. Maybe it ain't the best looking doll on the shelf, but it did give you skills that made subsequent builds far better.
I will be returning to this Thread for ideas on building more Shermans for my 1/72 scale collection.

OK, this is that wretched M36. I have no earthly idea what possessed me to do this, really. This thing was my first large armor build around 1999 after I burned out on building airplanes. I had a Testor's M36B1 in the stash, unbuilt from college days. I had the Fine Scale Modeler article on scratchbuilding a hull. And a lot of chutzpah, I suppose. As you look at this, remember that I had no fancy chopping tools, just the scale plans and a straightedge and a scalpel. My sanding efforts leave much to be desired; the hull edges and corners aren't sharp but rather rounded. The bogies are wrong, too late for these vehicles. Just to play around with techniques, I made those epoxy putty sandbags that would easily weight 125 pounds if they were real. I used Evergreen shapes and rod to make the fender brace to hold the bags and the frame over the turret. The tarp is facial tissue soaked in white glue. Evergreen stock made the stowage rack on the back, and was combined with bridal veil to make the ridiculous log armor holders on the side. The stowage is all ancient Verlinden and the antenna must be four scale inches in diameter. And I was insane enough to put three guys in the turret, and two of them had to be Frankensteined to fit. Weathering is pretty much limited to simple drybrushing. There are only about a million things that are horribly inaccurate on this thing... free photo hosting websites
