In school
NOBODY had a backpack !.....today they seem to be a necessity.
We went to the bus stop without a parent present !......today it is common
Hurt feelings were a fact...we got over it !...today you here about kids committing suicide !
We went out after school to play and used our imaginations a lot !......today everything seems to be organized and structured.
I'm glad I grew up then !!

Shoot the only time we were in the house was to eat, sleep or to catch an evening show with the family. If it rained we pulled on a rain coat and kept playing outside... we built models at the picnic table in the yard!!!

I remember that you either walked to school, or rode the bus. Mom's didn't take the kids to school! Nowadays, the biggest traffic jams around are near the schools! Some of the high school kids drove their own cars, but not many.

Yeah, good times. I used to work all up and down my street mowing lawns and doing odd jobs. I would then hop on my bike, ride the five blocks to a local 7-11, buy a kit (or two) some candy and a soda; ride back home and then either sit in my garage or go to my friend's house and build said model(s). My friend and I built a two-story treehouse (with a balcony); a pine cone cannon to defend it, and we also built go-carts and a sailboat. We even dug out a bunker that we covered with a sheet of plywood and sand so nobody could see it (unless they went around and found the 'door' which we didn't know how to cover). We used to walk one street over to the beach to fish for fish and crabs off a local small pier which we took home for our parents to cook up for dinner. We played war, had pine cone and dirt clod fights, raced our bikes all over, played Little League ball in the local ball fields, and explored the woods all around us.
And that was all before junior high school(7th,8th, and 9th grade).
Man what great times we had.

Indeed it was good then... but I must ask why no Slurpee??? Mostly because I had no way of getting it back home on my bike. No cup holders on bikes after all. If I went down with friends then yes, I bought a Slurpee.

A cup holder is a wonderful thing! I actually have three old cars in the driveway with no cup holders! The very idea!!!!

Who needs a cup holder, most the time I rode with one hand holding something anyway... Yeah, so did I! LOL! My model purchase, paints and candy/snack. Didn't have the plastic T-shirt bags we have today.

I diden't have any of those on my bike. Never could afford one and my parents didn't buy one for me. Probably because I never asked for one....
Now I pedal around on my brother's bike that I inherited when he passed. Beautiful bike with a titanium frame and disk brakes. No baskets or snap racks on that one either; although there is a small mounting bracket for a small water bottle.

Your brother's bike is cool just the way it is! No need for add-ons!
