So, one day last week, the following automobile broke down: It had to be towed to the shop that does all my mechanical repair. Fuel pump quit working. The mechanic ordered a pump. It will be in tomorrow morning. I get a call today to come down to the shop. It seems a woman backed her Chevy Trailblazer into the Jag. Caved in the driver's door, and broke the outside mirror. Now, just as soon as he gets it running, again, it has to go to the body shop!

The catch will be if the insurance company wants to total it!

A collectors car totalled??? I don't think so... that would be a lawsuit in my eyes...

I'm bracing for it. If the repair is more than the value, the insurance company won't pay to fix it. Two years ago, I bought one of these: 2004 Jaguar X-Type. In this color, too. It got clipped in the left front. Barely noticeable, but it was totaled, because repairs came up to $6500, and the car was valued at $5200. So, I got $5200. That was okay, I guess, as I only paid $4700 for the car. Bought it in September, put new tires on it in October, lost it on November. Hopefully, a door and mirror, plus paint, won't total the XJ-S. I just had a new top put on this thing!!

Hopefully they fix it... or I would be talking to a lawyer...

That's not good, too many things disappear due to insurance companies not wanting to pay out, do you get the option of buying it back over there and repairing it yourself?

We do have that option over here. If the insurance company tries to total it, I'll argue with them first, and then, depending on repair cost, I may buy it back and fix it. Shouldn't really be too hard, as it's only the door and mirror.

OUCH!!!
Stand your ground Bucky. Since it was the other persons fault you should be able to get it fixed no matter the cost. I had a '72 Chevelle (not an SS but I had done enough to it to run with the big dogs) that got hit by a person, who blew a stop sign, in the drivers door right where the door and quarter panel meet. His insurance wanted to total it but I said NO, I wanted it repaired. After about 2-3 days of standing firm they agreed to have it fixed and at the body shop of MY choice.

$3300.00 to repair the damage. That doesn't include painting the whole car.
