Hey guys, I was thinking yesterday about doing something for you guys that I really don't do anymore. I saw a few of your posts about your computer issues and wanted to offer assistance where I could. I spent about 20 years in Tech Support and while I really don't do it anymore, I know some of you are dealing with some stuff (financial, health, etc). I just wanted to let you know that if you need some help, just shoot me a PM.
Like with Bucky's failed hard drive, I can't promise anything, but over the years, I've picked up tricks that have helped me get data off of "unrecoverable" drives. So, if you want, you can bounce non-model tech questions off of me. There are some things that I can help with over email, etc to speed up your machines, etc. Be fore-warned though. I ask as many questions as you will sometimes as I try to understand exactly what problem you're having. (I've never believed in just telling people to reboot, reinstall, etc).

Thanks for the offer to help! I know I certainly can use some. When I get my PC back, I'll send you a PM.

Wow dude, that's the exact same machine I have (except you have twice the ram I have and a bigger hard drive). First thing I'd look at if I were you is the fans and vents around the laptop. 99% of the time, laptops overheat because one of the fans has stopped working or the vents are clogged.
On the bottom of this laptop you have a panel for the RAM and one for the WIFI card that both easily come out. These probably won't be clogged. If you have it turned over with the battery facing away from you, the lower right will be the hard drive. Pop that cover off and see if there's dust/hair/etc in there. If so, just blow it out with compressed air.
Unfortunately on this laptop, the most important vents are the ones above the hard drive to the right. These are over the CPU. If they are clogged which I suspect they may be, you're going to have to take the entire cover off the bottom.(Let me know if you need help with this). Before you do that though, you can probably try to blow compressed air through those vents. Aim the nozzle to the right of the machine as that would force air from the bottom vents to that one on the side beside your 3 USB ports. I'd blow the air through it until the air comes out dust free. Then, do it backwards (that is, blow through the vent on the side). You might have to do this a few times.
Start with those steps and let me know. You can send me a pm if you'd like.

Also, Pay special attention to the vents when you're using it. Mine is always on my lap because if I'm going to sit at a desk, I go to my much faster server in the shop. Looking at this laptop, the airflow moves through the bottom and that one side. If you cover too many of those vents, the machine won't be able to breathe--I can tell this by the heat on my legs when I've had it on for awhile.
