Been spending time getting the little details finished and one of the final projects for this beast has been the headers. The set I bought online were just so crappy I ditched them and went with the resin flange and collector set I got from Speed City. He has a link showing how to scratch a set using his pieces using solder for the tubes. I was doing real good since the solder bends easily and I had them done in about 3 hrs and while doing a test fit with the motor in the car I noticed they were a bit too long. I cut them down but I couldn't get the collectors as square as they should be from having CA'd them to the tubes using cut pieces of wire to hold and align them. Needless to say I was not happy with the outcome so I ordered two more sets from Speed City and will do this again. The first attempt was definitely a learning experience so I should be able to get them right this time around. Question - I found in my older paint supplies 6 bottles of unopened Pactra Acrylic Enamel Gloss clear coat. Would this work over the MM enamels I used to paint the '58 or should I use MM Gloss clear enamel? Here Bruce,is this what you're looking for?

That looks sharp, I would stick with the enamel clear... but that's just me...

Bummer about those headers, Cliff. Engine looks great, sat off in the bay, there! As far as the gloss coat, I would try it on some scrap before I put it on that beautiful purple '58! Otherwise, I would stick to the same brand.

I tried it on some test mules I have and it seems to have come out ok but I think I'll go with MM on this just to make sure.

Yeh buddy! That looks good! You can make exhaust headers out of Solder. There are several You Tube videos, which can show you how. Even I can do it.

Got a gloss coat on (MM) and the header pieces came in but I'll be busy again for the next couple of days so I hope to get on the headers this weekend.

Made my second attempt at the headers and I do believe they came out pretty good this time. Now to get them primed and painted. I hope to have the '58 done by the end of this weekend.

Thanks guys! I use the resin header flanges as templates on sheet styrene because of the weight of the solder. I figured CA wouldn't hold them but regular glue for a plastic on plastic weld will do the job.
