Thank you for the win guys! I'm glad to see it up there on the banner. Looks like quite the flurry of entries on the July one, so it should be a good voting month. I got one of mine up there to make things more interesting. Congratulations on that Mark. Great lookin' Concord brother.

A very nice model Beekster. The subtle weathering looks most realistic on your piece of rolling stock. Congratulations on your motm win.

Well, color me surprised! Obviously, I'm glad you fine fellows like it, and I'm pleased with how it came out, too. But I also have a nagging little feeling of this subject being not entirely worthy. After all, a freight car kit like this only has about a dozen parts and it takes no real skill to assemble. It even comes pre-painted and lettered, so there's no decaling to be done.
Regardless, there is more of this coming. I'll be back to the thread on the improvised gondola this week, after spending time down another rabbit hole with layout & track planning. That sawmill I want as a centerpiece is big, and I'm wary of trying to modify the configuration. That makes it difficult to find room for, especially since I have to open up the center of the layout to access things all around the perimeter both during construction and for operating it. So the gondola continues; there's a depressed center flat car done that wasn't blogged (just a paint job...but it might be entered for August); and a 40-foot steel boxcar on the way that will get plugs for the doors with a personnel door and windows in the sides. It is inspired by a digital download from Kalmbach on Maintenance of Way modeling, and old cars like this were sometimes removed from their frames & trucks and plopped on the ground as office/storage sheds for the track maintenance dudes.

Added mine to the August event. Something different, feel free to zoom in to see the pigeons inside. There's another pigeon perched outside too.

Should the MOM be for finished builds?

I see your point, Robbo, but a chassis build such as this is sort of similar to a cutaway build of an airplane, tank, or even a V-8 engine. It is meant to show the inner workings of an automotive subject. There are a few kits that have been issued through the years that consist of only automotive chassis, with no body parts. The Renwal 1/4 scale kit was one that was popular back in the 60's:

So the chassis in question is a finished model?

Yessir. The builder had a kit with badly damaged parts, and instead of pitching it in the bin, he decided to scratchbuild some extra parts to make a more detailed chassis. I think in this case, it can be considered a complete model. I once had a '65 Pontiac GTO kit that had a body that didn't come out the mold quite right, rendering the front section unusable. I chopped off the rear section, used part of the chassis, and made a trailer out of it. I started with this, set next to a normal GTO. and was able to salvage what I had paid for, and ended up with a complete, stand-alone trailer that I can display behind anything.

I agree with Bucky! It is the running gear on display. Dicky build one blown apart in the past to show off his running gear.
