Technically it's "Orchid Purple" but yeah...pretty vivid, for sure. And vivid paint jobs were pretty common for air race planes. Feeling marginally better about this one now; the busted tail piece has been glued back on and the joint puttied. I'll sand that smooth later this afternoon after it's cured. Then let the paint cure for a few days before a light sanding to ensure the glove prints and other flaws are removed. Next time I'll use some liquid latex to help the handle stay stuck to the prop shaft. Lesson learned.

The Mustang is finally sitting on its landing gear. The tires are just shimmied into place, and I've got some touch-up to do on the landing gear & doors. The tail wheel & strut haven't been painted yet. I'll tackle those tasks in the next couple of days and box up the model for a few more to let all the paint dry completely before I re-mask the cockpit and shoot an overall coat of gloss to even up the finish prior to decals.

It never really went away, Joe. But it's at that stage where there's a lot of lag time as the gloss paints cure. That just takes longer than flat coats. After some Glosscote and more cure time the decals will go on, and that will take a few days, too.

I just now got caught up with this project. It really is interesting, and I'm enjoying following along. A very unusual use for MOPAR Panther Pink! I'm accustomed to seeing it on Dodge Chargers and Plymouth Barracudas! LoL 😂

I'm accustomed to seeing it on Dodge Chargers and Plymouth Barracudas! LoL 😂 Indeed! The mix is Panther Pink, Blue Angel Blue, and White to match the FS number reference. I have had the car color in the stash for many years and have no recollection of what I thought it would be useful for. Maybe collar piping on WW2 Panzer troop figures, but I haven't built German armor in decades. At any rate, it is available on the bench now for this project and there's plenty left in the bottle. Maybe someday a 1/48 version will tickle my fancy.
