The vertical tank is a carbide generator called a Prestolite Tank for the headlights. Calcium carbide crystals are placed in the lower section and water from the upper section drips onto the crystals. The resulting chemical reaction produces acetylene gas. The gas is of course used by the headlights. The sludge must be cleaned out of the generator before the next use. It's very much like the miniature version that was used on miner's helmets. Here's some non brass ones...

I'm calling this done as it was a struggle to even finish it. The engine panels don't fit and the roof don't even go there, one side fits and the other is a big gap. It's sitting square with the windscreen but is very crooked along the seat at the back If you see this bag of poo for sale walk away, don't waste your money. I'm not even going to waste my time putting it in the loft, it'll be going in the bin

Sometimes, they just turn out that way, no matter how long ya been building models. It looks great for being your first venture into autos. Have another crack at something more modern, and see how it goes.

Looks great in the pics Robbo. If you're going to scrap it have a go at doing something crazy with it, hot rod or maybe something rusting away in a back yard
