Hi Folks
JED, its only one lens dud this time, the focal point issue was a few years ago.
Those short run kits were done usually with aluminium moulds, which deteriorated with use, meaning the first few thousand kits manufactured from them were pretty ok, after which the kits were pretty rubbish. Best thing was if one of those companies released a kit of something you wanted, was to get the kit as soon as it became available, that way you had a chance of getting a good one. I had an Albatros C-III (Think it was an Albatros) I did from a Hit-Kit, and it was ok, no moulding blobs or warps to contend with and flash was excessive but thin and thus fairly easy to deal with. I think I may have replaced the rear gun with one from an Airfix kit, but only because I'd had the Airfix gun in the spares box for ages. I'll see if I can find the piccys of that one and post them up here at some stage. 🤔
Best Gomez of knowing those pics are around here somewhere 😉🙃

Still looking, don't hold yer breath 😳
Getting used to new glasses as well, bit stronger than expected, slightly sore eyes are the result, nice to be able to see tiny doohickeys again. 🤓
Just gearing up to do s small flock of 72nds, Awaiting the arrival of a couple of decal sheets covering Mustangs of the 10th Air Commando in the CBI theartre (China, Burma, India for those who don't know). Some rather interesting, (if not spectacular), markings came out of that particular area. 😎 Other sheet is for Spitfires of 467 Sqn RAAF in Europe in WW2, including some flown during the Battle of Britain period.
Best Gomez of getting used to his new eyes 😉🙃

So am I....🤓
Found the Photo... its actually an LVG CV, which is a licence built Albatros CV...The only photo I took of it is below. Rigged with stretched sprue, kit decals, pretty much as box. By getting the kit as soon as it became available, I got a good'un
Hope the wait was worth it for ya
Best Gomez of wondering which one to start with...it might just be a world war wunner ! 😉🙃

Cheers Joe, Jed 👍
Got a few more photos round the place of other WW 1 72nds I did with those wood effect fuselages, I'll see if I can find them again...🤔
Been thhunking of doing a few more WW1 jobs, got quite a few of them unbuilt that my late mate got from me, which came back to haunt me after his recent passing.. Figure I might as well get them dun while my sight is still good enough before it goes blurry again as the new glasses get older.. I'll see how that goes, its all part of rebuilding mein kleiner Luftwaffe after all.... 😈
Best Gomez of thunking... 😉🙃

Stunning woodwork Gomez! Wow, one would almost think you used real wood! If you do decided to do some more World War Wunners with wood fuselages again, I'd love to see a tutorial on how you get that magnificent realistic effect.

Cheers guys ! The woodwork trick was something I'd been using on struts and propellors for some time and I tried it on fuselages, sometimes a trick like that for small parts doesn't work too well on larger things, although it worked on fuselages in 72nd, it wasn't too good in 48th.. oh well...
I'm still looking for the photos of a pile of wooden fuselage 72nds I did a while back, they'll turn up, of that I have no doubt.
My sight is only slightly improved with the new glasses, that will last a couple of months, til my eyes get used to the glasses, the glasses have no effect on the problems imposed by the cataracts, which will hopefully be removed by the end of this year, with any luck.
Best Gomez of looking for photos...😉🙃.

Thanks Folks 👍
That woodwork trick involved an overall coat of Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow Acrylic, letting it dry thoroughly (couple of days, to make sure), then carefully drybrushing over it in one direction only wth Windsor and Newton Cotman Series Burnt Sienna watercolour, the Burnt Sienna applied neat. The resulting woodgrain effect looked good enough to me. I'm still trying to locate photos of several Roden Albatros D-II and D-III's with fuselages done with that method.🤔🥱
I've been looking at various Roden Albatros and Fokker kits I have and I'm afraid they'll have to wait til my cataracts are fixed, I cannot clearly see the smaller parts, even under some pretty powerful magnifiers in my posession. 🤬🤫
At present, I'm working on finishing the 3 35ths and the 72nd Pz IV J that I've been futzing about with in the last weeks. Hopefully, I'll get 2 of the 35ths finished and decalled today, the third 35th to the finished and decalled stage tomorrow if all goes well. 😎
Hate to say it, but the 72nds will be staying in their boxes until my cataracts are removed... oh well, got plenty of 35ths to play with.. Panzer IV variants (the long gun equipped tanks (not interested in the "shorties") plus all sorts of other vehicles on the Pz IV chassis) 🤔😈
Best Gomez of terrible eyes, despite the new glasses 🤓😉🙃

Your wood technique is almost identical to mine except I use Windseor and Newton oil paint cause it dries slowly so I can play with the grain... a wait of a week and it's dry.

Horses for courses I guess 😎
As long as you don't varnish over the watercolour after its dry, you can reactivate it with a damp brush and get the grain looking a bit less" grainy" 🤫
There's a little glitch at the base of the tailfin on the LVG in the photo above, where a slight drop of water ran back from the brush and I didn't see it til things were dry and I saw it as I applied varnish (enamel) over it 😖 I once used burnt sienna oil paint over Desert Yellow Acryl to represent the grain patterns in sheets of plywood over the windows and doors of a boarded up building on a model railway. I found it easier to get the darker stains of the plywood grain that way.🤓
Best Gomez of looking for those WW1 Aircraft photos and the rest of my 35th Pz IV and variants stash...🤔😉🙃
