Cheers Joe...
Calling the 109 just about dun, It needs its wheels yet (I've found them - they're next, after the decal solvent hardens off ) and a coat of satin varnish to complete. π₯±
Crusader AA needs weathering to finish.. again, (along with the 109), that's for another day.. π₯±
Stopping for lunch now, Might return to the bench, might not, other things are calling...π
Best Gomez of indecision ππ

Not so fast, there's one little wrinkle...ππ€«
That one won't be finished in winter camo, There's a lack of white paint hereabouts, the local hobby shops ain't got any either (well not in the brands I use) π€―π€¬
It'll be dun as a Kursk example... Not to worry though, Takom have released a Panzer III N and a StuG III with Winterketten (snow tracks), and the Panzer III is offered in precisely the winter scheme I intended to do this one in... I may have placed an order for precisely those kits (and a few more as well) last night, if not, an order will go in next week for those kits and (in other news), my new glasses should be ready to pick up tomorrow - they'll make a BIG difference to my sight and muddling ability, new glasses always do have that effect... π€
I'll git the turret skirt armour onto the Mk III later today and get its basic camo onto it and add it to the small queue of kits awaiting final paint tweaks and decals (72nd He-111, 35th Marder II and that PITA 72nd Pz IV Ausf J (Mid), (wish I'd never started the booger with my sight the way it is, hopefully the new glasses will make a difference, otherwise the 72nd armour is in grave danger of being left in its boxes and completely ignored)..π€¬
Best Gomez od browned off with teeny things in 72nd ππ

After a week and a half of solid 10-hours days of work, I finally got to get caught up here. So many new developments for you and I'm thrilled to see you building still. Fantastic work all around. I also will be praying for a swift and full healing for your eyes after the surgeries.

Cheers Duke, life goeth on in its inexhorable way..can't stop that happening π
Meanwhile, back at the desk, the Mk III's Turret Skirts and smoke dischargers have been added and its off to the paint shop it goes, it'll cop its basic dark yellow 2 coat at some stage today, with any luck and I'm looking for another project. π₯±
I have quite a few PzKpfw IV variants to play with (oh lovely all those roadwheel tyres to paint π) but before I get to them, I feel like doing something else, maybe a half track or two ? Then there's three Hetzer versions as well (late model, Command version, Recovery version) Hmmm π€
I'll let you know when I've decided what's next π€

(2 hours after the above post...)
The Mk III N has now copped its basic Camo colour, Tamiya XF-88 Dark Yellow 2 being the paint used. needs a tad more in places too, but ne'er mind, I can do that with a hairy stick where necessary....
This will be the last one I put paint on for a couple of months too, its already too cold out here for paint to dry quickly or properly within a day or so, acryls tend to dry slowly in this sort of weather, and my eyes are no longer telling me when I have adequate paint coverage on a model πΆβπ«οΈ That last one will be fixed when I get my new glassesπ€, but I'll still have to wait on the weather warming up to get paint to dry as expected within reasonable time limits. I'll keep building (and buying paint) so that when the warmer weather returns, I can have a paint fest and hopefully, have the paint in stock to do so. π
The lenses for my new glasses SHOULD arrive at the specialists workrooms today and be ground down and fitted to my new glasses frames so I can pick them up tomorrow, all being (and going), well - here's hoping ! π
Best Gomez of not seeing straight due to glasses being past their "eat by" date ππ

News just in - literally (I've just put the phone down)...The lens delivery has been delayed by a day, means they'll git em Friday, Means they won't be ready for me til Monday (they do not open on weekends ! π€―π€¬
Ah well, its only a couple more days to wait, and the Supercars are on the box all weekend, so I wouldn't be muddlin anyway (NOT on a Supercars weekend I wouldn't ! ) ππ€π€«
Best Gomez of waiting more or less patiently... ππ

Oh booger. π€―π€¬.. new lenses came in on schedule yesterday, but ground to the wrong script, one can be reground to correct it, the other has to be done again entirely... won't cost me anything but time, they should be back by next Thurdsay, the 22nd of this month (shortest day of the year/midwinter solstice hereabouts). Its also payday and thus shopping day, methinks I'm going to be busy !
Best Gomez of almost groping blindly ππ

No big deal, wasn't unexpected, at least they spotted it before I tried the glasses on and found I couldn't see much thru em, cos the focal points of the lenses were too wide apart by about 50mm ππ€― That happended a few years ago and is why I won't go near that particular optician again, after he tried to get me to accept them as were "Your eyes will get used to them matey" was his comment.π€¬
Oh well.. not to worry, they'll be right when I get them, that's what matters. π€π
Best Gomez of happy to wait, having rediscovered a totally forgotten about secret stash box (cannot remember when I got what's in that box or where I got them from).ππ
I'll probably build them as a slight diversion from 35th, as company for the 109 and He111. πππ€«

Nuttin' much dun on anything over the weekend π₯±
He-111 has hsd some work dun on its underside, just a tad of paint brush touchup, the Mk III N has had its side skirts attached, just 5 minute/spare moment type jobs, nothing wort the effort of wasting a pic on... the paint on the 111 isn't even touch dry yet, even though it went on last night, that's the winter cold for ya π²
Oh well, might start something simple today, depends π€, Think I want to do another 35th to the paint stage before I drop to 72nd Aircraft for a bit of a no challenge sideshow, the forgotten box I referred to in the post above has mainly 72nd German aircraft in it, mainly Hobby Boss and Eduard weekend editions, plus a few Revell and Roden WW 1-ers which luckily don't need miuch in the eay of rigging.. π€ Think Fokker Tripehounds and D7's π
Best Gomez of looking forward to a winter of not much in the way of challenges muddlin' ππ

Not much rigging is good!!!

Post by WardWorks on Jun 19, 2023 3:51:42 GMT -6
No rigging is even better - there was only 1 like that in WW1, the Dornier Do-1, nobody's dun a kit (oops my memory just jogged me into retracting that statement - because somebody did - once !), There was a short run job by Meikraft a few years ago, I had one, but didn't get to building it, typical short run job, heavy flash everyehere and other ugh-ly features to be overcome. Meikraft kits were like the later Merlin, Pegasus and Hit-Kit ranges - absolutely horrible examples, and in the case of Hit-Kit, missing the S on the front of the first word of the brand name - (think about it !) With the missing S added to the brand name, its a perfect description of those kits (and their contents !)
Best Gomez of whatever ππ
