NEXT Have not done a P-51 in decades Started it today whadda mess Figured on dressing it up a bit with an Eduard Look cockpit set Given the properties of the plastic and the quality of the molding which is largely quite good I'm thinking this is a ROG product. This really surprised me when I got the box open as it was cheap, only thirty one bucks at the LHS. Regards, Mark

Welcome gents I lied, this is the Eduard Zoom set not the look Not much to report, just a bunch of prepainted parts At this stage two things are holding me back, one being the arrival of a PE seat harness set (which I tried making out of masking tape with ghastly results) and a day that I feel up to tackling the Zoom PE set. Getting slammed around for 8 hours in a hot dump truck does not prepare me well for such an activity so perhaps this weekend. After considerable thought, I've elected to do a natural metal bird based in 1944 Italy and decals are on the way. Everyone else seems to do ETO aircraft therefore I want to be different. I also don't feel like painting invasion stripes. Tomorrow is opening day for four species of partridge/grouse season here in Montana so it's not hard to figure what I'll be doing then Regards, Mark

The Eduard Zoom PE set makes things look pretty good altho it makes you work for it. The set is, however, not without its faults...note the way they give you toggle switches and how to assemble them Regrettably, the switches will not fit thru the holes in the outside part. Happily they are quite small so I omitted them. Took awhile but the cockpit is nearly done, the gunsight is all that's left Decals came today. The pack was kind of squashed and the sheets have a crease it them, right now I have them under a heavy book on a flat surface to see if I can get 'em flat. This is the aircraft I'll try to model Regards, Mark

JC thanks M ya gotta practice on the bad ones Fuselage close up went OK, I was a bit disappointed in the fit until I remembered whose name is on the box Happily it won't take much putty to fix the joint, which is above many Revell products. I began stage gluing those silly a$$ seperate gun sections in and fit here is also not the best. Whoever came up with that idea needs slapped You may have noticed big holes in these parts where there should not be. That's because I found these which will enhance things since molding was soft on the guns. Putty time Regards, Mark

Now THAT'S a definite improvement right there with the guns. I dunno what the heck these guys were thinking at the time. I just simply don't get it. I ran into a pretty similar situation in regard to wing guns on a Revell (oops....did I just say that word?) Corsair I built for a friend of mine several years ago. I mean....WTH?? REALLY???!!!! My fix was to cut the "toilet paper rolls" off from the gun bosses, drill them out in the center and install cut off syringes as gun barrels. It seemed to help things....ALOT!!! You're doing a great job with what you have to work with Mark.

Thank you M I'd hoped for better but was really not expecting it The cockpit windscreen is not wide enough, leaves a ledge when dry fit so this is my solution to the problem Putty Wings on. Fit in this area was poor, the assembly would not fit quite right resulting in a step I'll need to sand off This also had a bad effect on the air scoop; a fair amount of trimming and then sprue goo I made up was used to attatch and fill the gaps. Gaps everywhere on this Reworking the appalling gunsight Drilling the holes in these parts deep enough to be seen with a #69 pin drill Yup this one's an adventure Regards, Mark

OK re-evaluation time. The model is now showing signs of its origin (Revell) badly in ways such as I had to cut off some of the cockpit detail so the windscreen would fit (interference) and general janky fit in alot of places. The transparent parts are horrible, and a few other things I'll not go into detail with.
I am not inclined to pursue this further given the lack of quality molding and engineering present in this model; I've wasted about eighty bucks on it and do not wish to waste any more of my time on it.
Sorry
Regards, Mark

Sorry Regards, Mark I had this kind of stuff happen on that Corsair build that I was talking about. It was in the trash can at 3 different times during the build. I ended up finishing mine but I had to pull ALOT of rabbits out of the hat. For a modeler of your abilities to chunk one I know it's gotta be pretty bad. Will you be building another Mustang from a different manufacturer any time soon? You might be able to end up using some of those goodies you got on it.

This one sure wasn't. Perhaps because it came right on the heels of the Ertl haul truck? In any event I do this for fun and that quickly became anything but. No, I don't have any aspirations to do one from another manufacutrer, I got it on more of a whim than anything.
I should know better since in the last two years I've tossed four model kits over being horrendous, and three of them said Revell on them
