I bought on this kit on eBay a couple of years ago with the plan to use it to continue my “Local Legends” series of dirt track cars from back in the day. The plan was to build local racer and legend “Car 32 Bob Hudson” 67 Chevelle A Class Stock Car from 1970. After I opened the kit to start on it, it was such a nice kit I couldn’t bring myself to chop it up. So, I put it away and built a few others. Then a few weeks ago I heard my 31 yr old stepson, Bret (who’s not really in to cars) talking to my 8 yr old grandson, Kastyn (his nephew) about Hot Wheels cars. Bret stated that his first HWs car was a blue 67 Chevelle and how much he had loved that car. He knows that I can’t pass up a display with out thumbing through them and he noticed me listening. He told me if I ever found a copy of that blue 67 Chevelle to pick it up for him. At that moment I remembered this kit. So, I’m building this kit for my stepson Bret! Wish me luck building it and I hope he loves it once I give it to him! Here we go: As you can see the kit was molded in Marina blue. But it had some bad metallic swirls and lines that looked terrible. Nantucket blue was the color I wanted anyway and I found it in a satin finish.

Up next is a little more detail on the body and then clear coat. Then some chassis work and detail.

This is looking good. I like how you used a canning gripper for a paint stand, very slick idea. Yep, looks like the first set of wheels has the votes

Ok, learning experience!
I sprayed this body with Nantucket Blue Satin, Rust-Oleum brand. Not my first choice for model paints, but all I could find in that color. I put all my chrome finish on the trim, door handles, etc. then sprayed my clear coat on. This was after about 10 days cure time. I used Testor’s clear. It came out perfect over the satin blue. However, the solvent in the clear broke down the Molatov chrome and made it run. Luckily it was the worst around the door handles and the script on the side. Looked terrible! Thought I would have to strip it and start over. Dodged a bullet though. I let the clear cure over night and was able to wipe off the runs from the chrome with a little alcohol. It still needs a little more attention and will need some polishing.
