Greetings fellow modelers. I was going about my normal search last month for a new project when out of no where an opportunity to build one of my top three cars in the world. The main reason I have not done this yet is money. These kits are spendy so all i could do was drool and hope it would go on sale some day. Well that some day arrived and I jumped at this once in a life time opportunity. I hope you will come along with me as i try and do the best I can to build my dream car.
The 315S is a very rare car with only 4 ever built and 1 of those was a conversion. This car was also responsible for nearly ending Enzo Ferrari and his beloved car company. There was a race called the Mille Miglia in Italy that covered 1,000 mile of country road. One of the 315's lost control in the very last section of the race. The car crashed into a crowd of people killing 15 and both drivers. The city and organization blamed Enzo for it and charged him with a crime. Enzo was found not guilty but the race would never happen again. One of the 315's was recently sold at auction for 38 million making it the 3rd most expensive car ever sold at auction.
So that was the very very short story of the 325 you can find plenty more on the web but lets get to this build. I am going to build the Number 7 Sarthe 24 hours driven by M. Hawthorn/ L. Musso. The first part is the kit. I started building a few days ago so I do have a bit done but there is a ton left to do.
Thats about it. Please feel free to ask anything else you want to know about the car or the build.
I wish this red came throgh on the site how bright red it is. It was pretty cool when I first opened the box.
This is one beautiful resin body
I am no stranger too MFH and even though the do a great job of including details some extras are needed.
These bolts I got from Turner Models are perfect for the valve covers.
These chrome parts are real metal and true chrome. No need to strip and repaint here.
Here is what the instruction look like. Not too bad once you get use to them.
Most of the aluminum parts.
THE BUILD
So far I have managed to get the engine built. I will post more soon.
If you are ever going to or have built one of these kits you will find out there is a lot of drilling that needs to be done. I will drill out aprox. 300 to 400 holes on this kit before its done.
This is my metal primer of choice because it sprays clear and works perfect to help the paint stick.
I will replace some of the aluminum structural parts with strong stainless tubing.
I am so happy MFH started making the engine blocks and heads out of resin. Much lighter and less stress on chassis
I used small orings as grommets.
The V12.
I am not happy how the carbs lined up so need to make some changes.
