I shared a few months ago that I was able to get a super detail kit from Scale Motorsports for the Tamiya 935. This is a limited production kit that will transform the Tamiya 1/12 Martini. SMS gave us word they are now shipping...hooray. Problem I have is that I already built the Martini and really didn't want to go with the same livery. Lucky for me Indy Cals has a Hawaiian Tropic decal set and MCW Finishes was able to provide the exact Red 2061. The only item left is some rod ends, fasteners and other details from RB Motion. So if I don't make too many mistakes this should look pretty cool.
The Tamiya 1/12 right out of the box. I was thankful to run through it once to find any problems.
I really like this livery. Notice though there are no louvers on the fender and just one spotlight. Filled the fenders and found new light bezels on Shapeways.
This will be my first time using MCW. Anyone else use this paint? Anything I should watch out for like PSI?

Another nice project! I've heard a lot of good reviews about the MCW paints on other forums. Some builders won't use anything else.

I'm sold on them!!!! A bit pricey but well worth it for the authenticity in their colors!!! A lot of different factory colors you can't find anywhere else!!!

Build pics at last. The first place I wanted to start was a number of body mods that needed to be done. I did get to work on some of the small components using the SMS kit. More to come. Thanks for looking. Comments always welcome.
This is the stock Tamiya 935 version. We need to add some side effects to match the Tropic.
After making the air duct hole much bigger I could lay in some styrene sheet. No need to worry about those screw holes we are going to fill those in anyway. This just saves me the putty.
After adding the side styrene part I added another on the inside of the air intake to add stability and a surface for the putty. If your going to do this I recommend putting the doors in place to make sure you don't interfere with opening it.
One tricky part here was making sure to follow as much of the body line from the rear panel to here. When I added the sheet I gave myself little extra to sand and shape to finish.
One more panel was added to the intake. This really helped pull everything together.
I decided to finish the detail here instead of connecting to the front section. I'm thinking about making the entire nose removable.
So here is the 3d printed light. Tamiya has doubles but the Tropic has only one.
Last item is the shifter unit. Almost all of this is from the SMS kit. Pretty amazing stuff but this is challenging every part of my photo etch experience which is limited. These took hours to do. Hope I get better after this.

Thanks. I was very surprised to find that no one was offering one for 1/12. Especially with the rerelease of the 930's. INDYcals does offer one in 1/24 though. The biggest challenge will be adding a turbo to make it a twin and creating a new injector manifold. Kind of intense. Having fun with these awesome parts though. Not sure it was worth the money yet.

I've built one 1/12 scale model....a 1957 Chevy BelAir. That thing was HUGE! The mods are looking good!
