Catapult final. Although I was thinking after looking at it...it would not take much effort to motorize it and put some LED marker lights even the control panel. I don't know, too much?

The Arado 196
So not to bore you all with basic stuff I'm doing a lot of skipping to move things along. So unless there's a major issue I'm going to keep it simple. Also I'm not sure how much more I'll be able to post this week. I am getting ready for the first and maybe the only show of the year. I will be at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Hospital Art Exhibit and Contest. This is the Northwest regional. If you place first you go to national. If first at national then your up for best of show. I really like this one because its more than just models its art in general so you'll see paintings, wood carving, songs, photos..etc. So if your in the Spokane area its this Friday the 14th from 12pm to 5pm. Its located in back of the hospital outside in the small park. I can only enter one but they are letting me have a small table to show a few more. Hope to see you there. 

Oh yeah if I didn't mention before I am the returning winner from last years contest for the A6 Intruder. Crazy, still don't get why because all I see is all the mistakes I made. grrr

Ok the cockpit is exactly the same as the last Arado. You may notice no seatbelts. That's because the ones I got are just awful and for the first time I'm putting a pilot and navigator in the plain. My favorite figure maker has a perfect figure set for this. Plus I found a nice set of German deck hands to operate the catapult and crane so its shaping up to be a pretty busy dio. That s it for now and thanks again for looking and your comments.











I am really sorry the photos are so dark. I don't know what happened. Must be something up with my phone. One of these days I have to save up for decent SLR and lights. Till then I'll do what I can.

I'm back from the show and what a great show we had. Unfortunately I was the only model builder maybe next year. I know there's other modelers here but they stay hidden. 

Anyway back to the Arado and I got a lot done. This kit is amazing and everything fit just like the last one I did so there really isn't anything I found to watch out for. At this point the build is on hold waiting for the canopy I ordered from HPH.

I just had to see what its going to look like.


I installed the engine prior to paint but quickly regretted the decision. This should be left off till the main body is painted.






Watch out for these steps. I knocked some off more than a few times. Ugh I have such ogre hands sometimes.



I did my base shadowing and panel line using Panzer black.


The camo colors are a mix of Dunkelgrun and Schazgrun. I mix up 3 variations using light grey for modulating the finish. When I finish painting I use an oil wash of burnt umber, black, and yellow ochre. 


MRP is my go to paint for all of my aircraft. I prefer painting with lacquer because of easy it is to control the opacity.

Sorry about not taking more picks about the painting process but when I get in my zone its hard to stop and take pics but I will do better.








The pigment is European Dirt. 





As soon as I get the canopy I will also be adding a base of the ship and a crane. They used a crane to pick the plane out of the water and set it on the catapult.

Finally the Arado is near the finish line. The parts from HPH took forever but the new canopy and flaps were worth the wait. I also got some figures that I felt would make it fun to look at. 






Don't know if you can tell this but the new flaps have more detail. The canopy was changed as well from a 8 piece to a 3 piece. 


Very impressed with the details and extras you get from ICM. This kit also cost less than one of the other two. 



These of course are amazing but at $25 each they better be. They should be pre-painted and save me the trouble. Painting figures is not my favorite thing to do.




Sorry about the headless pilots I have to paint them separate. This is kinda what I was thinking as where they should go unless one of you have a suggestion I'd love your input.


Well off to paint some figures for awhile..ugh Next pics will be the final. Oh yeah I built a wood base. Not sure if I like the decals I added.

All finished. I decided enough is enough with this one. I could spend more time tweeking this and that but I've got other projects that are needing my attention.
