Many thanks, I'm not sure who they are by but feel like I've aided the rip off brigade as they arrived in a plane box and inside little plastic bags without any information, I've trawled through my laptop and can't even find who I ordered them from!!

You could be right, Jed. The vendor is usually easy to identify as being legit or not, but it does sound like a knock-off set from your description. Inet search on the set shows they are Evolution Miniatures, from Russia. Now, they could be a discontinued set and somebody in china is selling their remaining stock, but these figs look pretty clean. A closer examination usually shows the less experienced knock-off seam marks, etc. No worries, paint away, the horses are out of the barn, as they say

Thanks Steve, I have seen a few of these painted up and they look pretty good, hopefully I'll follow suite!! The castings are spot on with very minor cleaning needed. Thanks for the details

Well I've managed to do a bit of work to these two, a slight break while I figure out the bases for the 432 and Chieftain. The muzzle of the Bren got broken without me realising and has gone!! so I cut the rest off below the wrist and will re-attach when near completion. I have another 1/35 Bren but it looks a bit too big to me, I might just get away with using just the top portion of the barrel, time will tell.I have two rifles on the go, one is a kit part the other from the spares box with an added bayonet Just need to decide which one to use.

A little bit more done and trying them out on a base which is being filled. The base is another wooden lid off a candle, rubber seal removed and the groove filled and awaiting sanding. Cutting a sling in 1/35 was a task and a half, I still think its a bit wide but that was as narrow as I could get.

Made a start on the base, cat litter coated in household plaster sealer, a dark brown wash and dry brushing various shades of brown and san colours. I also did a bit of spot painting the odd stone/rock to break things up a bit more. Apart from the sand colours I used Citadel dry brush paints.
