69 Dodge Daytona

I'd like to finally build a Factory Stock car. The 1969 Dodge Daytona. It's been sitting in my " To Do " list for awhile. It's a pretty basic kit.

Yes. Very red and very flashy, in more ways than one. Out of the 503 Daytonas made, 70 had the 426 HEMI engine, which is in this kit. Would rather had the 440, but this kit has 3 versions of the 426. Lots of clean up on this 2009 kit. ERTL could have done better.

That's why I've been putting this one off. Going to primer it Silver Metalizer. That stops the bleeding.

No. probably not. Assembled the Hemi block/ tranny, scraped, sanded and filled sink and pin marks.

As some of you know, Chrysler, in 1969, had fallen behind Ford and GM at the Race tracks and didn't have a Production Car which qualified the credentials set by NASCAR. So they secretly built 503 of these ( Production Cars ) to enter the Indy 500 Daytona. And boy did they ever. This car set new track records and dominated the tracks for two years until the other Manufacturers figured out a way to get them and the HEMI, BANNED from racing tracks. This Stock Car also set a new Land Speed Record at the Bonneville Salt Flats of 217.357 MPH! I think they still hold that record for Fastest Production Car. So there is a little stigma for this car. It also started the " Muscle Car " era, then everything changed, much to the chagrin of Factory Stock Car lovers. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Sanded out the body putty and other seams and scratch marks. Will drill out the front fender wheel vents, maybe today and work on the suspension.

Cleaned flashing and fit parts for the beast. Built the rear Spoiler and put together the Blower Box, to go in the parts bin for a future build. Glued up the chassis and even shot it with Hot Rod Primer.

Sprayed the body with Testors Metalizer Steel ( Non Buffing ) to seal the red from bleed thru.

Red beans. I just don't think I can do it. Never have built a Factory Stock car before. Just want to put some Cragar Mags on it, to liven it up a bit.

You could always build this as one of the three illusive 1970 Daytonas. It's a pretty hotly argued subject, but would make for a really cool build. Here is more info if you are unaware of the story.
