That's some stunning work with Evergreen stock, Russ! How did you get the perfect circles done using styrene rod? I cheated. I used flat stock for each, I think it was .080" x .250", drilled and filed a hole, then cut, sanded and filed the outside of the stock to get my desired shape, a circle with one or two supports. It gave me some bonding surface, and actually only took about an hour to do two like that. I was downright pleased with myself, almost sustained an injury, I patted myself on the back so hard.....  The center U-shaped piece is more flat stock, maybe .040" x .080" ? held over a dowel on the end of some old calipers and dipped in almost-boiling water, first time I've used that method to put a curve in stock. I built all of it inside a square frame, strip and angle, then once it was pretty solid, trimmed the gap in the bottom horizontal piece and cleaned it up. It's pretty solid, only a wee bit out of scale, and looks like it needs to. Well, I'm off to the beach for a while, gonna take advantage of my enforced free time and my wife's ability to work out of our travel trailer.

Pushing on, I shot color on the turret, added the ERA to the mantlet bracket and shot it too.  IMG_1345 by Russel Baer, on Flickr A few things on the hull and it's ready for paint too. My idea is to wash and weather this one and the 7C at the same time, given their similar areas of operation, the difference being both time period and slightly different base colors. |

I need to keep on it, I go back to work (supposed to anyway) next month, gonna cut into my modeling time...  And..... I already have another junk box Magach started (in the background of my recent 7C pic). But wait, there's more! Sprue Bros had a Meng sale a couple of weeks ago, and I bought two of something totally out of character for me, one of which will supply the turret for a soon to happen conversion I've had in the back of my mind for a while, kind of a "what if" but based on an actual IDF prototype. Oh yeah, I'm already getting the itch to start it. |
